Smile 1967 Caravel One Year Restoration: Photos

Hi Everyone. With a lot of work over the past year and some good advice from a lot of contributors my Caravel is finally finished.

My restoration included:
New axle, wheels and tires. New propane regulator, new hot water heater, new faucets, new intelli-power converter, rewiring and adding a DC panel, fantastic fan, refrigerator, repairing furnace, recoating the fiberglass with epoxy spray, making new cabinet doors, rebuilding the cabinet on the lower galley side, my wife did all the cushions and upholstery, new composition vinyl tile, quilted stainless steel walls around the kitchen area, recoating counter tops, new aluminum trim for counters, and a million other details. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

I just posted photos. . .

Looks awesome! Love seeing the outcome of fellow '67 Caravel owner's restorations. Love the backsplash, fabric and color choices!

Now time to log some miles!! Great job, congrats on your accomplishment

Outstanding!

As a fellow Caravel restorer, I applaud your work!

What's next? Where do you dream to travel?

Well, the next project is the getting the AC running or replacing it. Then there's the polishing or exterior to do. I may consider a combination of graphics and polishing.

As far as a destination, my goal is to live under a palapa on the beach. So, I consider my Caravel my "tin palapa". This summer I'll head to Henelopen State Park in Lewes, DE and we'll try a few trips to places we've not been before and try out the whole RV thing.

We should have a Caravel get together.

Would you happen to have a good photo of the back bumper area of you Caravel. Mine is the same year and wonder what it should look like.
Thank you

Dingo- all I have are in the photo album which there is a link to in my signature field below. I think the second to last photo in the album is a close up of where I am painting the bumper.

Hi Brandon, your pics look great. The trailer came out super nice. Annie was saying the other day she wondered if you had completed it.

One hour at FTW's

I spent a hour at Frank's Trailer Works yesterday. Lucking for me he was working on a Caravel. This trailer could have been a twin of mine. I found that the ser# is about 90 off of mine. Frank does some awesome work. Its nice to know he has a open door policy. He always welcomes people to stop. The topper was lunch at Baltimore's pit beef shop Chap's CHAPS Charcoal Restaurant YUMO In the fall Frank is putting a axle on my Caravel and maybe a awing rail too.

WOW, Thanks Ace! We finished up that sexy little Caravel today. She is so shiny I need sunglasses.

You are correct, the door is always open to visitors. Often guests leave with a full belly too. Even though Chaps is called the best (it is very good) the actual BEST is Pioneer Pit Beef. Thanks for stopping by.

Hey Paul! Thanks for the compliment. I never would have been able to get to the finish line without your answers to my questions. People like you and Annie make this forum such an awesome resource.

I hope our paths cross someday and we can meet in person!

It's been several months since I have been on the forum-how do you access the photos again. We have a 66' Caravel that is in the shop for plumbing, re-wiring and etc. But his tech moved and now he cannot do so many major tech repair as we wanted. I would like to subscribe to this thread and get more accurate info. about our particular year and make of A/S. Would love to see your photos for ideas.

Hi Jerri, If you click on Vonzellen's name next to one of their posts, you'll see a menu, and one of the items is 'View Gallery Uploads' and that will take you to the pictures of their lovely trailer.

Good luck, and if you have any specific questions, there are a lot of folks here who have redone their Caravels that should be able to help.
