Okay airing over and yes I know that it is 47 years old and still good! That's why we like it so much.
Hold on there partner... You are very lucky, quality control was still very much in place. The 1966
was a very new departure for Airstream, they were trying to pull off some very innovative stuff. It was the space age and the styling of the 1966
was too. Ever looked at 1965
? The differences are astounding, much like Corvette changing the body style, something totally different. Trust me, quality control was still in place. Take apart a 1980's model, and we'll talk.
Broken drill bits are an operator error. Broken bits are a sign you should have replaced it with a sharp one. Change them out a lot and they won't break. Buy em by the dozen is my motto...
Only three blind rivets? You should find about 21 more by the time you finish. They were not blind at one point of the construction. If you were deconstructing her all the way, in the reverse of how she was built, you would see them plain as day. You would probably even put them in the same place making them blind to the next guy.
30 minutes becoming 2 hours is a very realistic vision of what it will take you in the ends. You are eating an elephant. Take small bites and chew well. Eventually you will have eaten the whole thing... ENJOY THIS ADVENTURE!
