Based on the number, it's a California 62.

the californias had the globe trotter name at an angle, too... those wacky californians!

any idea what the total production run was of trotters? just curious. they seem to be more common than the shorter ones.

I think it's great that you have three, I'm even envious. We are new A/S owner and have just started into our renovations.... and I've been saying that I would like to have a small one of my own. Just all mine. Something small that I could pull with my little truck and head out for the weekend with my girlfriends or just by myself.
And I could remodel however I desired....maybe in the future. I guess we should finish the Sovereign first.

it adds variety, that's for sure. they all need something a little different done to them. helps break up the work, especially when you get to a wall, or get bored with working on a particular project.

having said that, 3 airstream projects doen't help my A.D.D. much! haha!

got a new polishing tool in, and had to try it out! the front corner of "Stinky" is my inspiration. whenever i look at the horrible inside, the rear skins i have to replace, or get a whiff of why she's CALLED "Stinky" out of the gaping hole where the front window should be... i just step back, and look at the front quarter... "one day, she'll look like this ALL OVER!"

... when i'm 50!

ha!

Trailer 51

i named my second trailer "Shotgun" after the shotgun blast in her side...

i think this one's gonna have to be "Trailer 51". this is the front corner. looks too cool to take off, don't ya think? plus, when people say: "why is it called Trailer 51?"... i can say... "i have NO idea!"

polishing...

Hey, I like that setup. It looks like a big end polishing pad with rouge? Ok, so a question, I bought some rouge, but have no idea how to apply it. Do you just rub in on the pad with the pad stationary, on the aluminum, or on the running pad? My stick seems so hard, it doesn't want to put the material down on anything?

I also like the typestyle of the "51". It came that way? Looks cool to me.

two answers you could use for the 51 on the side.

1. The trailer came from a place called Groom Lake, NV. I wonder what that wierd smell could be?

2. 51 is one short of a full deck.

well, i apply the rouge to the wheel when it's spinning, then clean it out with a rake periodically to keep the wheel clean. i'm still perfecting the technique!

you can buy it here: http://www.jestcoproducts.com/

he's got an "airstream polishing kit". it's still work, but seemingly more rewarding than teh swirl marks. that angle grinder thing gets heavy after a while, though!

looks like it was built in March of 1962. I think it's a CA built trailer.

about ready to send her off....

this afternoon, i'm going to tape all the windows closed in preparation for her trip to fayetteville. i'm taking her in to have the floor replaced, a grey and black tank installed, and the frame taken care of (derusted, painted, etc). then i'm bringing her back home to replace the 2 rear quarter skins, reseal all the glass, install the new front window and a few more bits, before sending her back down to Todd to reinstall the bathroom, paint the interior and install black linoleum tiles... then back to me for the fun stuff (cabinets, lights, etc).

i'm trying someting different on this one. i figure by splitting up the work between me, and a guy who does this sorta stuff for a living, i can focus on teh parts of this restoration that are best suited for the winter months... theoretically...

here's a few pics, prior to departure...
