over the door outside light

I can't get the over the door light on, so I removed the three screws and the cover, only found a bulb wrapped in tape with wires comming out the end (and into trailer) I looked in the manual, is this right, no fixture? I have not tried hard, but the bulb does not twist or pull out. Help here is welcomed, and if you know the bulb size....great! MPJ

Last time we fixed ours we were told to be sure NOT to let that wire go back into the shell. We clipped our old light off and put a new one on and then grounded it to the trailer, works fine now, but some of the others will be recommending halogen light up there too.

My 77 has an 1141 bulb that is in a springloaded press and turn socket similar to the ones inside.

Mine had been "repaired" by a PO and was in similar condition.
FYI a trimmed down, double bulb marker light housing with a dab of JB weld fits nicely into the casting.
Made up a new frosted plexiglass lens and its better than new.

Replacement sockets are available. Try NAPA. Our 78 Sovreign socket disintegrated and with creative bending, the replacement socket was installed. Tom Nuglers fix sounds like a good one also.
