Hi everyone - new member here!

Just wanted to say hi to everyone...we are purchasing a 71 Tradewind from my father in law. It is in decent condition structurally but needs a major cosmetic overhaul (it has been used as a hunting trailer for the past 10 years or so).

The first item on our 'To Do' list is to replace the green shag carpeting. Unfortunately we forgot to measure and it is 3 hours away. Do you have any idea of how many square feet we will be covering?

The second 'To Do' is the sofa bed. The cushions need to be replaced. How comfortable are the foam cushions? Are there any other options for a sleeper sofa? This is where we will be sleeping since our daughters have already claimed the twins and comfort is a major issue since I have back problems.

And third, the walls. Has anyone had luck painting or wallpapering? The plastic piece on the end is very yellow, any suggestions there?

I'm sure we will be frequent posters as we are brand new at this...any advice will be welcomed!

Thanks!

Just a thought,

It seems you are mainly concerned with the cosmetics and believe me, that time will come! You should, first off, be more concerned with tires, brakes, LP systems, appliances, and the list goes on. I know well the gut reaction that can come at first from the outdated colors, fabrics, etc., but once you get bogged down with the labor and costs of getting all the aforementioned items taken care of you will be surprised to see just how good (and classy!) that puky green shag can become!

Not trying to depress you, I just want you to realize what you may be in for.

Good input Chas ! H-n-C what lay-out does you rig have ?if it is like mine I will go out and measure it for you.I think there is a link from my first post, there are some photos of the interior of my A/S on that link. As far as the foam goes I really like mine it is very comfortable ,esp after i went to Wal-mart and bought this full size "egg crate" foam mattress cover to bridge the gaps.We just lay it on top of the bed then put our sheets over it . Hope this helps. Tom

Actually I guess I didn't make it clear - these are the top items on the 'Interior' list....there are several maintenance type issues we have to handle first. I'm leaving those for my husband to deal with!

Tom, I looked at your pictures and ours is laid out exactly like yours. Measurements would be wonderful whenever you get a chance!

I had also thought about the eggshell mattress cover, so sounds like that will work. Did you have new foam cushions made? Just wondering how much to budget for that.

We too have a 71 TW LY 25', same layout as Tom's (much rougher shape).

If you still need the measurements, please don't hesitate to ask. Now that most of the snow is melted & the rain has stopped, it is just a matter of getting off our butts and walk 20 feet.
We live in our #2 AS and use this one as a guest room. Time to go and check what the mice have been doing in there anyway, you will do us a favor if you ask.

It looks like NC is a good place for AS. We came back from Greensboro last night where we bought a new addition to our little family: our #3: 1990 32', to add to our #1: 71 25' and our #2: 74 29' . These things reproduce like rabbits if you're not careful.

I see a few people with TW are from Central VA, us too (South Central VA).

Plese do us a favor, and ask those measurement (we are a bit too lazy !!!)

Chantal.
