Glad to hear...

...you are okay from Harvey. Looking forward to more updates. For myself, I have the shell back on my '72 and will be rerunning electrical over Christmas break. Still haven't started that build thread though!

How's the reno coming? Done ready for summer??

My trailer is still under snow from the winter that won't end...
I'm back looking and planning to get started on my reno again.

Motivation

It's been awhile since we got back to work. A lot of distractions/life events over the past year or so. So, instead of letting her sit out there all neglected, we decided to give her a makeover. We found a guy that came to our house and gave the old girl a polish. I think this will give us some much needed motivation. A before and after.

Here we go!

Glad to see you back at it! It looks beautiful!

The build never works to plan. I'm still stuck on mine as well. I have run my electrical, but I can't find time to do insulation and put the interior skins back on. Even so, every now and then, I pick a small spot on the outside and I just polish it a little bit. While I'll need to redo it all again at some point, at least I'm getting some of the corrosion off, which will speed everything up later.

But more than anything, it keeps me engaged with the project, even if I'm not accomplishing what I want.

Demo Time

We've had some beautiful weather here in Texas lately, so we hit it pretty hard for a couple of days. Here are some pictures of the progress. Except for the toilet, everything came out fairly easy. We still have to remove the vent hood, it looks like a challenge. Some observations and surprises:

1. The wiring at the converter and the out of sight plumbing was a mess. It's a wonder the old girl never went up in flames.

2. Remarkably, all the lights and outlets still work.

3. Sadly, there is some severe floor rot and rust issues at the back of the trailer. As soon as we can get her under cover, it's belly pan removal time.

4. What's up with the holding tank under the toilet?? Does this one dump into another one? Stupid idea, in my opinion. This will be redesigned.

5. We like the idea of leaving the bathroom in the back, but with a step in shower on one side and the toilet on the other side. This would involve moving the converter. Not a big deal, right?

Overall, we're happy with what we've found so far. Hopefully, we can stay focued.

Hello from snowy Colorado: Still all white here with temps below freezing. I happened on your thread today. The Tradewind 25' is one of my favorite models. I renovated a 66 Trade Wind 24' some years ago. Now I have a 75 Overlander 27'. I was looking for a Tradewind but none on the market when I was looking.

So I would like to follow along as you renovate this old Airstream. So far it looks a whole like mine when I towed it home. My goal is to make it a reliable and travel ready Airstream the whole family can enjoy. It is not a show winner by any means. I am documenting my progress in a project thread linked below my signature if you care to take a look.

Yep, the belly pan has to come down for frame and floor inspection. And installation of improved waste water tanks. I did so on my Trade Wind and my Overlander. Here by the way is a photo of both trailers that you might be interested in.
