1973 TW kitchen

In a 73 Tradwind kitchen, the tambour door under the sink, horizontal accross, is it supposed to be 1 long piece that retracts to the stove side? Mine is in small segments that move 3-4". Just wondering, it works as is, but I'd want to fix it if it's not correct. MPJ

In my 73 TW the door is one piece that opens away from the stove side.

ok, got a nice used tambour for the under the sink long thin tambour. HELP! how in the world do you get it out/replace. My owners manual has the pic of the assembly, no teartdown steps. I hope and don't want to remove the whole cabinet. MPJ

From the factory it is one piece. It is prone to hang up trying to completely open. I cut mine in half and added a couple of handles so that I only have to worry about getting one half the total length in the spiral storage track. The other half then just slides back and forth in the track without retracting. You may be able to get out short sections by bowing them enough to remove them, but to install or remove a complete track you have to partially disassemble the lower front corner of the counter so you can drop the track and get enough room to feed the tambour in to the track. Kind of a pain.

You can get used tambour watching ebay or in this forums classifieds. I recommend taking the tambour apart, strip by strip, replacing the backing and reglue with contact cement. Some owners have opted for not dealing with the rolling tambour system and used the tambour for facing on hinged cabinet doors. I have some extra tambour I would sell for what it cost me if you tell me what you need.
