Well - it sure is lonely here - 1961
We just purchased our 1st Airstream - a 1961 Flying Cloud.
I was hoping there was a larger community of other owners so we could share tips and tricks.
Where is everybody?

Welcome and happy trails to you. I have a 2006 so I am of no use but to offer a Jerseygirl welcome. I am sure others will jump in and direct you.

Actually don't limit yourself to '61 flying clouds... Many of the early 60’s trailers were built by the same methods.
What kind of tips and tricks are you looking for?

If you want lots of interaction, just go in the towing / hitches forum and tell everyone there that you heard a Hensley really sucks.

Reinergirl is right: don't limit yourself to 61 FCs, search for each year and model of the early 60s and you will find a wealth of information. Dig in and read lots of threads, finally you will be driven to ask a question/comment on something, then you will be "in" and launched on the Forum.
Go for it, don't sit back and wait for someone to offer you tips and tricks. Besides, such a question is so general that there are no answers--you'll have to be more specific, then you'll get more answers than you know what to do with!
Congrats on your '61, what is the floor plan? We have a '62 with a very nice open floor plan--it is awaiting renovation but I go out and dream in it.
How about some photos? Nothing really exists on the Forum without photos!

Thanks all for the replies.
Oh, I've been reading and reading the forums. And I've asked a few questions too.
Landshark, our Flying Cloud's floor plan has the L-shaped seating area up front, galley and wardrobe in the middle, and bathroom in the back.
The only part of the plan we'll probably change is to rebuild the gaucho situation to get better sleeping conditions. (We're hoping to get a queen-sized space.)
I'll be posting pictures later.

Your floor plan sounds exactly like ours! I love the L-shaped seating up front, supposedly it sleeps 3, but looks better for two.
Waiting for pics....

I've looked in that forum a few times. And yes, eventually I had to get out because there was too much arguing.
I'd really love to hear from the owners of vintage, lighter-weight, 22-footed A/S trailers and see what towing attachments they're using (Weight and sway), and see how they are faring.
We just bought a nice 2006 Ford F150 (5.4L) to pull ours.

We pull both a '77 23' Safari and an '87 34' Ltd with an '08 F250 diesel, using WD bars, and have been pleased as punch with performance: both of the truck's pulling power and the trailers' trailing behavior.
We have also pulled the '77 Safari with first a '75 F150 gas-powered engine (not so big), then an '87 F250 gas-powered engine (BIG), with the same WD bar set-up, and again had no complaints other than slowing down on steep uphill runs. We have never had trouble with trailer behavior, even in very strong side winds and gusts--the trailers just purred along behind the trucks as though attached, er, they are attached--you know what I mean.
But I have to say that for sheer pulling power, that '08 diesel is worth its weight in gold. Whatever direction we go when leaving home, we have to go over some steep mountain pass, and with the diesel we never slow down--even towing the 34'er. But the trailers have always followed along like well-behaved train cars, never a tail-wag or quiver at all.
Hope you enjoy camping with your rig!

We pull our 22' SS with a Honda Ridgeline. We do not use a WD or Sway And have no problems. Been doing that for 40k+ miles.

Welcome jdlimages and kirkrit. You both recently acquired 61 Flying Cloud Airstreams. Now you can share the trials and tribulations of your ownership experiences. There is a lot to learn and these Air Forums can help you.
We would love to see photos of your trailers. I personally don't use the member "photo gallery" very much. I'm too lazy to navigate away from the thread to check out a photo. I'd say most participants post photos right in the tread they are participating in.
It's pretty easy to post a photo once you learn how. You can't do it from the "post quick reply" screen. You need to be in the "reply to thread" screen that gives more tools. Select the spot in your reply where the photo will get pasted. I often do it at the end of my note, like I'm doing in this post.
Then click on the "paper clip" and see the "manage attachments" drop down screen that asks you to "choose a file". Click the box and find the photo you want to upload on your computer, and click "open".
Okay, now click on "upload" and go have a diet coke! It may take several minutes to upload your photo. The screen says "please wait". The system is resizing your photo for you. Sometimes it is faster than others. You will see your photo file name appear in the screen once it has finished the upload process. Now you can "close this window".
You are done! You can select "preview post" to see what the final version of your posting. I do this to ensure I didn't select a photo of my beagle instead of my trailer.
Here is my 66 twenty four foot Trade Wind. It is much different than your 61. Some experts believe the early sixties trailers were the best as they were built in the last years of Bayum leadership. I think your trailers are seven segment end caps and leaf spring axles. I'm probably wrong, so show me a photo of your trailer.
Hope this helps,
David
