Wally, you need not say goodbye.

You were a good custodian for #83, getting it's restoration well underway, but I certainly understand how these projects can grow into larger projects than originally anticipated. I am glad that #83 has a new owner that will continue the progress to truly get that historic Airstream back on the road.

I would be happy to keep you in the ATW communications loop as we continue to learn more and more about this historic trip and await the next surviving ATW Airstream to be rediscovered.

I hope you and Janni now have more time to enjoy using your other Airstream and hope that our paths may cross some day in the future.

Joe, I'm glad I was able to locate Fran Halls niece. Her willingness to share the 134 photos and Fran's personal notes/recollections of the caravan will help everyone better understand what the travelers went through.
Janni & I appreciate being kept in the ATW loop. Being part of this endeavor has been a wonderful experience in our lives. Thankful to not be saying "Good-bye".

Well, #83 is now home with us in Oregon. Thank you Janni and Wally for allowing us to have her. We are so excited to get it back on the road again! We are not often on Airforums, but I'll try to post periodic updates on our progress.

#83 restoration project has new custodian-owners

Fran Hall’s #83 Flying Cloud now shares a spot in the barn next to fellow ATW Overlander #5289, the Yeager trailer which we have completed. Yeager 5289 was tens of feet away from #83 at this years 2018 Salem International. A week ago yesterday having driven back to Salem, we arrived home last Friday with “Fran” as we will call the trailer. Now the awesome task will be to continue the restoration. Thank you Scott, Megan, Brad, Susan, Joe and Lori, Wally and Janna for you help.

After leaving the 2Taylors a week ago Monday, we headed to McKays RV repair in Albany, Oregon. There the next day was busy. McKays techs serviced the axle with fresh bearings and races, shock mounts welded for the shocks we brought with us, and we bought three new tires for the trip back to Colorado.stay tuned

Chris and Jim:

Congratulations on acquiring "Fran" #83 and bringing him back to Colorado, where his former owner, photographer and naturalist Fran Hall, spent the last years of his adventurous and inquisitive life. You did an excellent job restoring the Yeager's ATW trailer and I know "Fran" will receive a similar beautiful and loving restoration. Good work!

Congrats Jim & Chris! Let me know if you have any specific parts needs. I have rescued a variety of drawers and cabinet and closet doors from a couple of 1961 and 1962 Ohio built Overlander Internationals (i.e. the darker walnut interior color) that might work to replace some of your missing interior items if the dimensions are the same on Fran Hall's ATWC 1962 22' Flying Cloud International. I might even have a light fixture or two. Contact me off line if you want to discuss.

Thanks Joe
At present we are collecting trailer interior decorations. Chris has identified Frans radio and cameras. We have them coming. Also looking for a Iranian wedding blanket, not common but spendy. Also looking for another period correct tow vehicle. The list goes on.

Figuring out where to Start😱

The “build” has begun. “Fran” as we affectionately call the Francis Hall’s #83 Flying Cloud ATW trailer needs parts. “Fran” came to us with no interior, shy from a few wood bits. Especially interior walls, furniture cabinets. We see on various sites, vintage trailers advertised ready to be remodeled with NO interior. Question: on these empty shells that are for sale and restoration, where are the interiors “put in” by Airstream? Surely every counter frame, bath tub, holding tank drawer and door pull and hinge hardware has been thrown in the dumpster. While possible with our finesse we can rebuild the trailers interior, at least old panel walls, couch frames which maybe unuseable would at least make good templates. Anyone have any interior cabinets from early ‘60 Ohio built trailers they’re willing to part with. We will be making a trek east to Flint MI (date yet not known but soon) to collect an exact frig that was in #83 during the ATW caravan. Anyone along I-80 who has a stash of interior parts please contact us

Missing Interior

I'm always looking for "everything" Airstream and will gladly add what you need to list. There are very few Ohio trailers around here but who knows when one will pop up.
You'll find some interesting frame additions ahead of the wheel wells. I was going to piece in a new floor. All the extra support was for strength at the joints. Brad did the back so I'm not sure what that will look like. I wish I had gone to up state MI last fall and picked up that FC. Good luck and thanks for keeping us informed.
