My 1960 22' safari

I spotted this one on a small lot full of 50s/60s era trailers and motorboats, surprisingly the owner was willing to sell. I got it for $3200, probably not the best deal as I have no idea if anything works. I was looking for a custom renovation anyway.

So far I pulled out 2 layers of carpet and 3/4 ply before I got to the laminate in the photo. I'm told it was used as hunters cabin for awhile, and it shows.

The last photo is of the bathroom closet floor. They had a second water heater in there that looks like it had been leaking. The floor was very soft, so I hammered it out.

It looks like a great one to have and keep. If I were you I'd pull the entire interior out and then look at the floor. You may be OK with just some major patching, then a thin overlay to smooth things out before the finish flooring and your refreshed interior. Working the floor with all the cabinets, tables and beds in the way makes for a bigger project. Have fun.

I've pulled most of the furniture except the wall dividers...they are firmly in place...what's the best way to remove those so I can save them as templates?

The curved aluminum channel at the wall/wood side can be fastened with rivets to the wall. Drill those rivets out. Careful with the channels. That extrusion is impossible to find. Your right about the patterns.

For hunting huh? Smell a little musty? Looks like a great project so where (what state) are you? I ask because it looks warmer there which means more work time unless you are having our nc monsoon season! Please keep us posted we love a good repair story.

I'm in East Tennessee actually. The trailer came out of North Carolina before it sat for the last four years where I found it.

The smells not horrible.

Progress I made today. The whole shower section floor was rotten, but first glance at the chassis looks ok. Looks like a few cuts were made in outrigger under the shower pan.

Yeah, the biggest conundrum being; I can't grasp the idea of replacing the floor with the body in place????

So remove those inner walls and pop that shel loose! Made it easier in my opinion!

I think I settled on that. Looking into a warehouse that might make it easier.

What's the theory on adding a grey water tank? I've found that at least one crossbeam will need to be replaced and I've read that moving one may be necessary to add a grey tank....
Size?
Placement?

I figured I would keep the black water and clean water tanks where they are...seems to work well.

Shell-on floor replacement is do-able: we did it that way on a 31 footer. Shell-off is probably easier overall in after thought. Make sure you label your inner walls as you remove them. Makes it SO much easier when you put the jigsaw puzzle back together!

Thanks for the advice! I've got photos on my phone and camera. I got out my sharpie and masking tape. Today.



I've still got to remove the front interior lining, but I've got to figure out how to remove the clean water tank first.

Half the belly pan is out...it was poorly patched and corroded, so it needed to come out anyway.

Question:
Where was the furnace located in my Safari? Below the oven?

The belly pan is out. The chassis looks ok, the last two cross beams and a couple outriggers will need to be replaced.

I hope to have the body removed this weekend possibly. Once the floor is removed I'll haul the trailer to have it welded and repaired.

I found a metal "endcap" with a built in c channel for the ply wood floor...does anyone have experience with this? Is it a good idea?
