Hello. My husband and I have owned a 1959 Ambassador for a few years. We bought it knowing we would have to fix it up. A LOT! So we are finally embarking on our journey. Today we started replacing all the outside lights. I have a question regarding the liscence plate light.... ours is on the back left side of the camper, but we are curious if it originally was centered between the two backlights? Do any of you have good pics of what the backs of your ambassadors look like? We are totally redoing ours and are very excited about it. Hopefully I will be able to post pics of our redo!

Sometimes they are off center because there was a spare tire on the back of the trailer. We have a 1959 Sovereign of the Road and haven't started restoring it- but it has all of it's original fixtures and what not.

If you go look at my pictures you can see a good shot of the back of my trailer. My plate holder was in the center but had been moved up because they had installed the spare tire carrier. The plate holder was a spring loaded one so you could open the back window.
Hope this helps.

I have a 1959 airstream Ambassador # I28 90 72 in the process of restoring it now. Is there any where to get a owners manual for it?

They did not make owner's manuals back then they did have some service bulletins that they put out. I think if you go to the Vintage Airstream Club site they have these in a pdf format and you can down load them. Please post some pictures of your trailer so we can enjoy.

Welcome Brittany, to the '59er club. A great year, in fact, one of the best in my opinion. Looking forward to pictures and your thread.

We just bought a new (old) property. The owner was there since 1966. The couple (rip) left us a 28ft Ambassador. I'm not sure what year it is - it has a MHMA registration number, how else do I check. It looks to be in fair shape....oxidation of course and a little weathering inside but real good shape underneath.

Congrats on your new acquisition. To know the year of your trailer, all that is needed is to post your trailer's serial number. Check for an ID tag by the entry door. Someone here will be able to decipher it. Pictures may also help, we love pictures.
