Water tanks, repair or replace

Hi! I'm on the water repair section of my 1963 Tradewinds and I wonder if there is a way to clean the inside of water tanks instead of just replacing them with new ones. Has anyone ever tried to do that? Does it worth the effort? I would prefer to keep it as original as possible...

Thank you

Ed

Replace them. You will spend more money trying to repair and clean the old ones.

water tank clean/repair

The water system in my 1961 Safari was very similar to what I see of yours. I am guessing you have an air pump for water pressure the same as mine. I removed my tank, inspected the interior as well as I could with a flashlight, then inserted a hose and washed the tank. The interior looked good and there was no sign of any leaks. I then capped off all fittings on the tank except one which I hooked to city water and tested the tank at full water pressure of (72 PSI). I then disinfected with a chlorine mixture, reinstalled the tank and have been using it for more than 10 years with no problems.

Thanx Samb, I will do as you say, I also believe in recycling and keep it original. All the best!
