This last weekend at Stubbs was beautiful in more ways than one. Weather was fantastic but, even more special, our friend Justin (Vermouth - dry humor - long story) came out on his motorcycle.....he hasn't seen our AS since we began laying the floor. For a man of few words, the ones he used when he walked inside were priceless and then, the Godfather & Mastermind of the electrical and interior skins Josh (Joshie - cuz people I care about MUST have a nickname) dropped by later in the afternoon and set up his tent in the amazingly spacious site.
Nothing beats spending a weekend with people we love, in our labor of love. on probably the last sunny weekend before the first day of Fall.
a little out of sequence...spending so much time in our lovely AS that I'm falling behind!!! Here are some photos from our first rally (ok, we've attended a few over the last 3 years but just for the day, and without the AS)...we co-hosted with our Unit President (thank goodness)...had a few glitches on our first outing but, at the end of the day, everything worked itself out. Celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Capetown to Cairo amazing journey complete with a yummy, masterful rendition of the original menu (prepared by my hubby). Our first mini-caravan; 23 AS of varying style, shape, vintage; wine tasting; animal safari; AS open house for the participants in the local Classic Car Rally; progressive happy hour....an ABSOLUTELY amazing weekend and, even better, a memorable way to christen our beloved AS.
Enjoy....
Homecoming...for the last two weekends we've taken our AS back to where we rescued her - Vernonia, OR. We stayed at the lovely LL Stubb Stewart State Park and, two weekends ago..I swear the river that tried to claim her once KNEW she was in the area cuz the rain was out of control!!! My favorite part of that weekend was when sweet Cherie, the woman who worked at the storage place where we rescued, and gutted, our sweet moldy AS...came to visit. Cherie hadn't seen the AS since we towed it home, subfloor exposed...half of the interior skins and insulation removed.
When Cherie walked in the trailer she almost screamed, and then my eyes teared up...now that we're done I can honestly admit that there were several times when I truly thought we wouldn't finish this restoration and that our AS would end up on Craigs List with that same sad picture you see all the time - gutted interior, lonely shop vac in the middle of the floor saying "I Give". But we perserved, we remained committed to our vision and, honestly, our membership in the WBCCI Oregon Unit kept us motivated and inspired to finish so that we could be a part of their adventures.
Last weekend at Stubbs the weather was spectacular and two very important people in the history of our AS came to visit: Justin, who was there from the beginning and helped us pull out all of the moldy interior..and who hadn't seen her since we began installation of the hardwood floors; and Josh, who was the patient, brilliant mastermind behind the installation of our electrical system and interior panels...and who I know encouraged my hubby to spend a shared 25 hours snaking 120v wiring through the top so that I could have my lovely overhead lights (complete with dimmer switch)
Without friends, all of this work over the last 2.5 years would have seemed so empty
We've taken her out every weekend since completion...kinda sad this coming weekend we're not headed out but really looking forward to Belknap Springs October 9,10 with our AS friends.....
Love all the pictures, We did have Fun!!! How are we going to top this year, oh let's say Antsey McClain and the Trailer Park Toubadours in July. Our cult only gets better. See you at the springs.

Fantastic job Monah and Doug! Your pictures look great. maybe we will see you down the road somewhere. Come on up to Canada in June. Or Washington in August.
It's sooooo awesome that we are still in touch....I promise that we'll try to get up North next year - need to figure out the work travel schedule but will definitely make it a priority. Safe travels

Our beloved trailer has been complete...ok, complete is a relative term - there's always something to be done on the sh*t list, right?.....but back to the complete thing...our beloved trailer has been road-ready for just over 8 weeks, and we've taken her out for 7 of the 8 weekends!!! She's held up, and cleaned up, admirably as a steady stream of people stopped in to see the finale of the last 2.5 years of restoration!! There are times when, given the sheer delight and admiration of the visitors, my eyes tear up....you've heard me say this a bit throughout my postings...it's been a long, long road where my husband and I often wondered if we would ever see our dream come to life.
This weekend was one of those "eyes tear up" moments - we went to a beautiful campground called Belknap Hotsprings on the McKenzie River in Central Oregon with 23 other AS'ers. The rain didn't stop the socializing which I've grown to love within our Unit, nor did it dilute the desire of our members to see the "Heath Remodel" Couldn't stop the tearing-up when an especially darling group first stepped into "Miss June"
Here comes the sappy part...we had just finished our renovation a few weeks before the photo shoot, and Taylor met her a week later. Knowing that our AS would be featured in a broadly distributed publication, I INSISTED that my husband install our WBCCI numbers BEFORE any photo was taken. We had kept that moment as something special signifying the completion of labor-of-love and, more importantly, our membership into a very special Club. We've been members of the WBCCI...and owned our numbers...for three years and could have easily installed those numbers early in the renovation process. Nope...it held a special meaning to us...only earning the right to install them at the completion of our self-induced timeline.
I wanted everyone who sees this calendar to know that we're proud to belong to the WBCCI - the friends we've made in our Oregon Unit #090 are dear to us.
Safe Travels All.....
See More. Do More. Live More.
The weekend of October 8th thru 10th took a group of AS'ers from the Oregon Unit to a stunning location - Belknap Hot Springs - in Central Oregon.Belknap Home True to it's name, there are two mineral hot springs which served as an alternative to the constant downpour throughout the weekend. I arrived Saturday morning, having spent the latter part of the week out of town on business, to one of my favorite sights ever....Airstream after Airstream parked side-by-side! It took me almost an hour to make it up to the second tier of the campground where our AS was parked because I needed to get out and mingle with friends.
It was an absolutely wonderful weekend...our hosts did a beautiful job organizing the Rally, we met some really sweet and really fun people and we continued our love-affair with Miss June, #3339!!
I'm bummed that the weather is turning rainy but that's not going to stop us from enjoying our AS lifestyle. Enjoy the pics....and safe travels all:
Learned something new about camping in wet trees in the NW...slimy things all over our trailers, cars and, in some cases, person weren't really aliens but Tree Frog Egg Sacks...(almost the same thing to the girl who doesn't really camp....eeekkk!!!)
Thanks....for a minute there I wasn't sure if you were calling me Cleopatra which would have been awesome Hope you guys are doing well - we're headed to LL Stub Stewart Park this weekend - you're welcome to join us....would love to see your beauty!!
I just found this thread, and I'm so happy! I LOVE your Airstream! What a great design, and the Mid-Century Modern touches are perfect. Is there a better marriage than MCM and Airstreams? I really hope I get to see it in real life one day.
Lisa
P.S. How do you like your Dyson fan? Great idea to have a bladeless fan in close-quarters.
Lisa - your note just made my day we absolutely LOVE our trailer ...and now I'm going to go oogle yours in a minute....we're actually on vacation in Puerto Vallarta and are taking the AS out as soon as we get home this Friday!!
The Dyson fan is awesome...I bought that silly thing when it was only available on-line thru Dyson specifically for the AS - it works perfectly, is quiet and is a really quite stunning addition to the space. Also just bought the Dyson Animal Hand Vac - our lovely hound dog sheds like crazy so between her and all of that camping dirt and pine needles I've found it to be perfect.
Hope to get a chance to meet up with you someday as well...we met the most darling couple from Vancouver BC at a rally in Northern Washington a few years ago and are still in touch with them. Let me know if you're ever headed this way
