Yes, I believe this is what they were, JO24521. A lady has it for sale locally but has to file for a lost title and we didnt know where to look, is that it? On the Overlander there is a small plate on the front that has all the info on it.
Can you tell me anything about it by these numbers?
Thanks
Tammy

Adding the "6" before the 5, makes the trailer to be a 1966 24 foot, made in Ohio, production sequence # 521.
Well, I used to be able to. The Airstream Corp. site used to have the secret decoder ring listed there. But since they started reworking the site in the last month or so, the link disappeared. Like a knucklehead, I didn't keep a copy, just the link. Somebody may have saved a copy of the .PDF file.

You might try Canoestream, I think he is one of the master decoders
I think that one was made in Jackson center in 65- but I could be and probally am wrong

J = Jackson Center (not California) production
O = Overlander
24 = length
Y = Tammy, is the year # missing? It should be 2 if it's supposed to be a '62. If the 5th place digit really is 5, Rodney has the '65 year right.
NNN = sequential production number should be 3 digits
The serial number is freqently also embossed into the steel of the A-frame, though sometimes covered by brackets for weight distribution gear.
vintageairstream.com gives a slightly different take on the formats:
1962 Overlander 26'
Ohio | 26 2 T(D) NNN (I prefix for Int'l options)
California | 28 TSS 0554 to 28 TSS 0728
(T=Rear bath Twin; D=Rear Bath Double)
1965 Overlander 26'
Ohio | J O(I) 26 5 NNN
California | S O(I) 26 5 NNN
(I prefix for Int'l options)
(5NN suffix for double bed layout)
Tammy, There may be another clue here in your pics that would help ID the trailer. That being the old WBCCI number ghosts on the end caps. It Appears the number was 9904. You could have the local WBCCI chapter check that number to find out (when) it was issued to (who) and for (what year) Airstream. My guess tho is a '66 Tradewind based on the curved window glass on the sides of the trailer. Happy Trails, Ed

The reason I need to know where the VIN number is, we want to buy this trailer but the lady that has it cant find the title and is going to file for a lost title. The courthouse said they need the number. We looked everywhere we thought it might have been but to no avail.
But you have the VIN number -- JO246521. They were really that simple back then. I suspect this was an Airstream format and there may have been no industry standard. Photograph the VIN plate, print out the pre-1980 VIN .pdf file, and present those at the courthouse.
Can anyone tell me where to look for the VIN Number on a Tradewind?
It is a 1966
Thanks!
I suggest that you subscribe to Airstream Life magazine. Information on how to find your VIN number was clearly defined in the eBay Watch column
in the Fall 1907 issue.
It would be extremely rare to find an Airstream trailer without a
VIN, although it might be hard to get to if it is just stamped in the tongue and nowhere else.

I would have bet money on it being a Trade Wind what with it being 24ft, but then again, I never was any good at vin games. I was OK at ven diagrams though....

The digit after the "J" is actually a "0", zero - the number, not "O", oh the letter. It was used as a placeholder when "I" for International was not used on Land Yacht models - no matter their size. It does not stand for Overlander...this confusion has been perpetuated by the mis-information in that Airstream decoder ring for several years - just to keep everybody guessing and the secret code really a secret You will see the "0" in every length of trailer if it's a Land Yacht - "I" if it has the International upgrade package.
It is a Tradewind based on it's 24' length - not an Overlander which is 26' long in '66.
