Congratulations Mary. Glad you've finally getting her (or him) home. Ask your questions, there's a number of us early TradeWind owners here to help. I've had your name on my registry list for some time and it is good to finally be able to list you with the Ohio built trailers. Now a bit more information please. Does it have a double or twin beds? Couch or dinette? Also be great to see some pictures. Hint...hint.
'She' has twin beds. I believe it had a couch, but it is missing. She has a window to the right of the door. The second owner removed the couch¿¿ and added chairs and a table to play cards. She never left his property. Everything else is original. Some delaminating and the interior walls have been painted. We are the third owner....bought her sometime ago and just did not know what to do.... so much work! She has a Princess stove and a Dometic frig. Both work, but how well??? Hubby removed all the windows and they are now being repaired, new glass or whatever??? She had a toilet but when I visited yesterday it is missing??? I don't know where it went, but I see lots of new plumbing. I am the decorator and the geek! Hubby is the hmmmmmmmmm... fixer-upper! The indoor-outdoor carpet is also gone. Sitting on the floor was a heat gun, I think he is removing the tile! Ö Ö Ö I took a few pictures and will post them when I figure out how to do it!
Brand New Airstream owner (we're new owners, it's not a new airstream)
Hello All,
About 8 hours ago, we brought home our very first AS - a '64 Tradewind Double named Felix ( Felix was a PO, I thought it was only fitting to carry on his name).
Serial number is listed as S0024410191 (that's the VIN number off the title. It's too dark to go outside and read the plate and verify).
The interior can use a little TLC, some delaminating, broken floor trim, ugly carpet and a few cracks in the Zolatone. BUT - the body is in great shape, the floor is in great shape and as long as the body, frame, floor and mechanicals are all good, the rest is simply cosmetic, right? At least that's what my husband and I said as we tried to rationalize this purchase......
I'm sure I'll be asking a ton of questions over the next several months, so please be patient!
Dnrtheil, welcome. It sounds like you've got some work ahead, but maybe nothing as indepth as an off frame restoration. I'm sure you've figured out there is plenty of information here to help.
Rationalization is a great coping mechanism, isn't it?
I was surfing the Vintage Airstream Archives 2 weeks ago and discovered a Tradewind that was very similar to ours. Halfway through the different views of it I was surprised to realize that it IS OURS. the photos were posted from the eBay listing that we bought it through. I have not discovered how to use the 'tool' to create the link here but if you are interested it is under '66 Tradewind #SO246012'

The CA lowest number is 114 and guess who has that one? I don't have the registry with me for the lowest OH number but I'll add it tonight. I DO know its lower than 114 though.
ok, so I talked to my dad and here is the info he got off of my trailer.
He said the first tag says it was manufactured in Norwalk, Ca 12/58
Vin 24D-0152
he said there is a tag above that that says
DOH #9188 (whats this)?????
And above that is another tag with the number 187
On a side note, i bought my trailer from the original family who purchased it in '59, they took it back to airstream for modifications, i now have a wrap around dinette up front that the table drops down and makes a bed, they also installed a bunk bed above the double bed.
This was done at the norwalk facility, sometime in the 60's i believe.

59Tradewind -
Can you (or anyone else with factory installed dinette in a 59 TW) post a photo of your dinette? Mine has a couch in front, but I want to replace it with a dinette and would like to see an original one. Thanks!
Mark
Here is one i found online (luckily there are pics of it from a past rally)
when i get home i will see if we have anymore
Im heading out to arizona for mothers day. if there are any specific pics you would like to see, just let me know and i can take some.
but the table has smaller legs underneath, so when the table gets lowered its the same size as the seats. the couches on either side slide out a couple inches, and then we just lay down the back rests and it covers the whole area. the couches also have the little legs on them so when they are slid out, they still have support.
again, if there are any specific pics or measurements you would like, just let me know.
im not on here too often, so if you like, you can always email me at 59caddy@sbcglobal.net

I knew I had some pix of my booth showing different views with and without cushions plus with and without the plywood cover. The sides are stock although re-enforced and the seat area under the window is not original but I wanted a wrap around seating so it functions like a 'U' shaped couch without the table. If add'l photos would be a benefit, let me know.
Thanks Mike and thanks Brad!
I knew that some of the Calif trailers had a front dinette, but had not seen one. I plan to put my fresh water tank under the front window (original location) and I like the U-shaped seating configuration. I'd seen photos of flyfshr's dinette on vintageairstream.com, but had assumed that the U-shape was a completely new installation. Good for you - saving the old and adding to it! A small point: your "shelf" looks identical to mine, but is above the front window. Mine was below the window, and anchored the back cushion of the gaucho with handles and hooks.
The dinette is a ways down the road yet - I'm working on a gray tank and plumbing currently, and the interior is vacant with newly painted Zolatone and new Marmoleum. I still have a long way to go . . .

Its hard to tell because its white and blends with the painted background but my water tank is under the front window. The original was an 18 or so gallon cylindrical and pressurized unit. I took it out and ordered a poly one from Inca Plastics to my specifications and gained about another 15 gallons of available fresh water.
