pictures!

These are various pictures of our floor tearout so far. Yes, we did chop off the lower few inches of the inner panels because we're either going to replace them or put in a baseboard of some kind. For now we left them in for structural reasons and for less work!

The floor is bad all the way around on the edges. Makes it a little easier to get it out! The picture of the step is to show the pitted damaged area, and the welder is going to make a new doorframe for us too. Half of it is missing as you can see.

Does anyone know if POR15 takes a weld after it's on? I'll have to remove some if not. Not very much though.

bought a window!!

I bought a piece of Lexan at the local glass shop, it was $100.25 total. It came the next day! So I have it in my possession, I've read over the window replacement information at the www.airstreamdreams.com site, and I'm ready to give it a try. It's good that I can do the first one on Lexan to see how it goes, for practice.

Time to get glue and gasket, and I'm on my way! Wish me courage! I'm already very lucky.

ingrid.

Lexan also has an AR-2 version.

The AR-2 means it is abrasion resistant on both sides.

You can actually scrub it with steel wool, without scratching it.

That is the only type we offer.

Thanks Andy,

I checked and this one is not the abrasion resistant one. I'll look into the other kind if this one turns out to be a problem! For now we're trying to get it not leaking so we can finish the floor. The guy at the glass shop has offered me 20% off of future purchases so I may go back and get another one, if it's not too much more expensive.

Did ya wear rubber gloves to keep the "swamp snot" off your hands??

I have to say that the 39" windows are a bear to install gaskets on. A two person job to say the least. Keep going!!!!

ok ok

I'm glad someone's actually reading my thread! I'll post a picture here in a while. Husband had to do it. He tore up three or four latex gloves, till.. We've decided I'll remove the old gasket and he'll put on the new. I put the old one on upside down (blonde moment for sure).

I'm still reading the thread too, Ingrid! Great to see you continuing to plug along. How's the frame work going? Had the welder out yet? As far as I know, welders need to get to bare metal to make a weld, so you WILL be re-applying the POR-15 over the welds when he's done. That's why I waited until after welding to paint. You'd do a little of that anyway, because you don't want the new welds to rust.

Keep at it!

Thanks! Good to know people care...it helps me stay motivated, to post progress and look back.

The frame needs no welding in the exposed area. I don't know what to weld and what doesn't need welding, so finally Jeff and the welder got together, talked about it, and told me to go ahead and paint over the front of the frame under where we removed the floor so far. I did that. Next the window goes in, front floor goes back in, and more floor comes out in the middle of the trailer. (I didn't paint any further back underneath the trailer, I decided it wasn't worth it until the floor came out and welding was done). Then I think some welding needs done in the middle of the frame, but very little. I can finally comfortably say that our frame is in pretty good shape. We continue like this until the frame is all welded, painted, and floor is all in.

Then, they say, the fun begins. Interior!!

Sounds like your frame was in better shape than mine! That's good news.

I'm elbow deep in finishing up the interior myself now. Lots of detail work. Goes slow when you don't know much about woodworking.

you go girl!

Hey Ingrid! Keep up the good work! I'll be doing my windows soon enough when they come in and I'll be drawing on your expertise (yours too, Tedd!). Have you guys tried Nitrile gloves? We use them with chemicals at work - I'm pretty sure they're available commercially....I don't even dare think about the frame.....

we put the gasket on upside down. turns out I had it on correctly, but I had cut it on the corners. jeff made a beautiful fit, and...it's completely wrong.

Time to step back and take a break. At least I haven't messed up the painting!

Did you happen to get pics of how it went in? Anything to watch for to make sure you have the correct orientation? Keep up the good work and you know we're allways looking for updates!

Thanks!

I didn't know that my husband didn't see the picture I had of how it goes in and he just did it the way he used to do when he put in windows into cars as a teen.

Dumb mistake...the rain will keep us away from it for a few days!!

Talking Hang in there!

"the sun'll come out tomorrow.....". At least you're able to work on your baby. Moby's still on blocks in the barn. Hubby still working on electrical problem concerning the brakes. Can't wait to put on new tires and drag him out (Moby, not husband) into the sun. I can see inside so much better with natural light. Took some pictures of what the missing parts are supposed to look like when I visited with eubank in Angel Fire.

I'm starting to get antsy......
