new member 1960 tradewind
Hello to all
I have a 1960 tradewind serial#240291D .I have been a guest for quite awhile and have enjoyed all the features of airstream forums. you all seem like a great group of folks and I have decided to get in on the fun! My tradewind was purchased by me in lincoln nebraska a couple years ago and as you all can imagine I have been working on it and restoring it as time allows. I really like it and as a kid like most of us I always dreamed of having one. My tradewind is really a twin of Toby Folwicks , does he still have his? The layout and interior including the fabricks bath and colors of the sink and tub are the same . Isnt that funny? They say no two are alike but ours are. Well , I will give some info on the trailer ,it has new leaf springs, its a single axle, wheels tires brakes all have been replaced. Has front gaucho small table (original) that is stowed to the street side. double bed .The interior of this unit was and is in great condition .Yes I have done some floor repairs by the door ,the frame is in remarkable shape but did have some rust on the rear frame horns just under the rear and all of that has been replaced as has the bumper. By the way those rear bumpers are from grummen olsen body co. on Long Island and can be bought brand new mine was 75 dollars. They are not listed for an airsteam but were used on stepvans. I can give more info if someone needs to buy one. Well the tow vehical is a fully restored 1968 international harvester travelall 1100c with 4 wheel drive . It has a nice 392 v8 and 5 speed overdrive transmission . I have done many modifications to increase its road manners making it safer and much more stable on the road as well . I run a round bar equalizer hitch setup with 750# bars and sway control . It works excellent . If I can figure out how to post pictures here I will do so of the tradewind and the travelall. Alot of work has been invested to get my rig camping ready .the rear bath has been reworked as well. Luckily no major floor issues .the commode is a sealand travler lite works and looks good . So I have went on here quite abit but I know you guys are interested to get the scoop on my setup as I am always interested in yours as well. I must say I am interested in getting out to some of these rallys and events soon . Talk at you soon and thanks.

Hi ScottanLilly ~
Welcome to the forums. Its great to have another early Trade Wind join us. You know, i went all through the site of the 2004 Silver Trailer Social and only saw one shot of your trailer with the turquiose and white awnings. I especially would like to see more pictures of your Trade Wind and learn a little more about it. Last I spoke with Toby, he still had his. Probably still working on it if I know Toby.

hello everone ,
I took alot of good pictures sunday and tried to load them . found that the file is too big . so how do I link my pictures to the forums ? It seems I will have to take my photos over again with less pixels to be able to post them here . any ideas?

Hi Scottanlily ~
You'll need to use an image software program on your compouter like PhotoShop or something similar to reduce the size of your pictures. You'll need to reduce the image size but mostly drop down the resolution to make the file size smaller. What software do you have to manipulate your photos on your PC?
I really want to see some pictures.
Brad

Your Trade Wind is beautiful!!! I really like the turquoise. Fits right in with the era of the trailer and its furnishings. The exterior is in really great shape and the shore power plug looks brand new. Where did you find such a rare item? How many times a year do you take her out? I think a '59 and '60 Trade Wind rally is in order.

Thanks flyfshr , thank you dawn,
Yea that tourquoise really pops doesnt it ? The funny thing is that it isnt that bright as the pictures show . The color just comes right out at ya. The bargmann plug and the recepticle are indeed brand new. The p.o. had one new recepticle in the drawer with n.o.s. vintage mantles for the gas light and glass fuses ,light bulbs etc. I also have the valve handles for the brass dump valve and water faucet that drains the fresh water tank .The ultra rare plug I found out in lancaster at an old junk shop , I found 2 of them and I already had the original I have been using. So that means I have 2 spares ! Does someone want one? I have another brand new recepticle and a used one and then the original one from the tradewind which means I have 3 of those also . in keeping with the semi original theme I wanted to use the original plug arrangement it works perfectly . I also have installed a new stainless steel water tank up front that i had a stainless expert build for me . It is pressure operated like the original. By the way those original tanks are not galvanized they are made of aluminum and they corrode badly as we know!

About the use of the tradewind ( I forgot to respond to you about that) we try to take her out as much as possible .The last big outing was 9 days from here in ca. to arizona on route 66 . we hooked up to 66 in williams az for awhile then took it to the grand canyon caverns which is a loop of route 66 also . We went all over and what a blast . I really want to do some trips with other airstreamers . How about a route 66 run or rally ?!! The tradewind model ,especially early units are a favorite of mine . By the way , the old club # is 3715 . The p.o. had scrawled the number on everything . I want to preserve the ambiance (is that right?) of this tradewind

If Brad or Dawn don't
SocttanLily,
If Brad or Dawn don't take you up on the ultra rare plug, I'll take one for my 60 Trade Wind... 1.5 weeks as owner and loving it! Here at the Cherry Blossom rally in DC...cleaning it!

Ask and you shall receive !! Give me some info on where it needs to go and I will send them . Now I needto tell you that these plugs use a crummy little metal clamp which get lost ,so what I did after your cord is assembled to the plug is use a vulcanising sealer to fill the cavity around the cord . home depot or o.s.h. whatever and that will seal the innards from the elements and also retain the cord in it . you wont be yanking the cord out of the trailer like a vacuum cord down the hallway any way. I did this with mine and im happy . I used black autobody windshield urathane sealer adhesive . Very tough stuff, It comes in black only so it is not noticible .
Messy too dont get it on your jeans !!
