my new to me 1959 24' Trade Wind ser#249038

all,

well i sold my 1959 22' flying cloud needing restoration about 3 months ago. it was gutted and i wanted a bit longer size.

i got really lucky to find this 1959 24' trade wind a few weeks ago that is in really nice condition and all original inside.
belonged to the original owner and now that he is 89 ys old, it was time for him to sell - he used it as a man cave and below are some black and white photos i took of the owner prior to my purchase and driving it home. we drove up to the campsite he kept it at for 35 years! used as his mancave!!

needs a thorough cleaning inside - astrodome on forward vent is cracked so photos show temporary plastic cover

i'll be doing a slight restoration of the cabinet and floor surfaces

regards from seattle!

Groovzilla I absolutely adore the black and white original owner shot. Very iconic and touching.

Thanks for the great pictures of this old Trade Wind. You'll have to sign up in Flycasters old Trade Wind registry. He has quite a list.

Keep us posted on your clean up and what needs this old trailer has. After cleaning we usually find some floor rot, and a window that won't work, and that dead mouse smell, etc, etc. Let the fun begin.

No grey water tank unless the owner added one.

We just bought a 1959 Trade Wind too!

I'm going to be really interested in your progress because a month ago I bought this same model. Mine has about 75% of the original interior and I'm working on the wood/cabinets right now. Did yours come with a manual of any type? If so I would love to get a copy! I'd happily pay for copy and shipping cost etc. Let me know!
Good luck with yours and keep the photos coming please!

ABSTRACTMOM nice meeting you - according to the airstream renovation website, pre-1962 trailers didn't come with any manuals.

in your photo, is that a double bed across from the cabinets OR is it a single and the double is the front goucho?

i'd be interested in seeing more photos of the rear bed if you have any!

so the only holding tank is the black water tank that the toilet is sitting on?

since i have to repair a section of the rear floor, i'll be opening up most of the rear floor and install 2 grey water tanks under the rear closet and cabinet.

also your cabinets look very nice - the surfaces of the cabinets in my trailer are ok except for the kitchen - the surfaces are dry and have some dark black stains from the nails or fasteners they used

i plan on refinishing the cabinets in the kitchen.

Great Find! and another '59 at that.
On our '58 18' Traveler we only have a Freshwater Tank and a Black Water Tank. I have made some changes allowing the Gray Water to either go direct overboard or be diverted into the Black Water Tank, this means that I have 2 discharge fittings.

prairieschooner thanks for the cool PDF's - these 50' trailers are so cool!!

i was born in 1959 so it's special to me - my 59 22' flying cloud that i was planning to restore was nice, but gutted and too much of a project and no original classic interior - i sold it 5 months ago. i wanted a longer 50's example and when the 59 24' came along i couldn't resist - finding one with a nice interior was great!

like an old collector car, the originality is the ultimate beauty and what makes it special - to be in am environment as it was built is like nothing else.

i restored a 1959 porsche 356 super sunroof 25 yrs ago - i think it's one of the most beautiful designs - they always reminded me of the 50' airstreams - simple round lines making a perfect shape/design.

hope my photo doesn't cause anyone to jump out their window - i don't bite

I understand having things your birth year! it is really cool when you can say...it's as old as I am. Nice 356! that is one of the cars that I always wanted but never got. Simple and curvy is a perfect explanation and they are fun to drive.
I am a '52 Baby but chose not to do a '52 AS primarily because of the pipe frame. Then the '58 Traveler came along and we were looking for something in that size so it began. PS the tractor in my avatar is a 1952 Ford 8N and I am in the process with a '52 Pontiac Sedan Delivery that will be the Tow Vehicle for the '58 Traveler.

That 356A has appreciated much faster than our old Airstreams! I had a college friend with a 356B. I was amazed how effortlessly it cruised at 80 mph. But they were too close to VW for my tastes. I needed a crude, noisy, leaky, unreliable front engine English sports car for my fun. Healys, MGs, Jags, Lotus were in my garage at one time or another years ago.

Your nice 356A won't pull your Airstream, even if they are the same year.
