Can't decide what to do first....

I need to caulk the seams. I have way too much vulkem (husband thought I was redoing a fleet )so I have decided to use it on the seams - rather than order parbond/silkaflex/alcoa-(hate it). I rigged up my caulking tube to spew a smaller bead... and I use a lot of mineral spirit soaked rags to get a clean job, but...

I will be stripping and polishing later. I have stripped and semi-polished around all the vents I re-placed, the marker lights, and the windows. I started to caulk a seam yesterday, stopped, and decided to strip around the seams first. Now I can caulk them, but when I polish what will happen? Will all the caulking get dirty and look ugly - or will it come out??
Some days I just bumble from one project to another, feeling lost and unsure what to do.
-----WEATHERSTRIPPING THE FRONT DOOR-----------------
Yesterday I wasted 30$ on a roll of weatherstripping I thought would work for my door problem. Many times throughout I said - stop.. return it....stop...but I did not! I did have a breakthrough though... I got so frustrated I did a "don't try this at home", in fact I shouldn't even admit it here, but, I tweaked my door. I was standing on a latter; I put my foot on the lower part of the door (handle side) and grabbed the top for a jolt, err two.... and wallah- my gap got greatly minimized and the door shuts great (of course without weatherstrip). But I'm back to square one on weatherstrip. I'd like to find the "D" style. I need something that will squish pretty flat on the hinge side, and as it makes its way around the door, will fill in the uneven areas of where the door meets the jamb. In my bad area I need it to reach 1/2", or 5/8. I have tried the window gasket (used on my windows)- too flat. Ideas??? Napa/Kraegan-nope!

What I did is put masking tape on both sides of the seam, caulk it, wipe or push into seam as needed. then one final pass to smooth it, I use the back of plastic spoons, swipe and toss spoon.

Now remove tape, get beer!

I may have solved my door gasket issue. Because I made the door fit better, I think the weatherstrip I took off will actually work now. I have glued on another round of it and did a "Sanford & Son" (as husband lovingly calls my 'fixes') technique on the area that needed extra length. If it works and if it doesn't !

New Cushions

I have started playing with my foam. I have cut templates out of butcher paper for the dinette. And for the mid- goucho I have been playing with how it may have been originally... and I don't really get it. The plywood I saved from the old goucho seems odd. The small plywood from the back cushions don't reach the ends (width-wise) of the base, so you'd have to shimmy the cushion to be sure it was supported in the bed position. Also, when in the couch position it seems the back rest is uncomfortably too far back. I have 4" foam and I am planning to do away with the old pattern and use a sort-of different one. I'm thinking I will use two cushions to make up the bed and have one rest against the wall for the cold factor. Without pics I may be speaking gibberish.... Anyone have ideas on why it is the way it is/was???

So, it's pouring rain and so far I have one steady drip in a window- I need to caulk the little crack next to the glass bar. And the door - well it has a little leak as well. The hinge side of the door doesn't allow the gasket to lay the proper way. I will have to tape the gasket to lay the proper way, close the door, and not open it for a while !! Uggh!

Wednesday, I upholstered one of the cushions that makes up the center gaucho. It came out pretty good. Of course not being OC, It could have been better . So yesterday, I never got out of my new jammies and I cut all the foam to fit the dinette and gaucho. I made templates out of butcher paper and spent allllll day cutting out the fabric. I thought it would take a few hours, but it was 5:30 before I noticed the house had fallen apart around me----.

Of course this only happens to me... I have just enough fabric to cover everything.... except I need one more yard!!!!!!!! And the fabric came from Maui, and it says 2001 on it, and it isn't online, and, and.... . So I have weighed my options, discussed them with husband (OC/perfectionist ) and have come up with the only solution I can stand. The remaining fabric is needed for two of the backrest cushions on the dinette. I have enough to make it look like the fabric is on the back. But I will have to use a different fabric on the back. No one but us, or all of you, will know.... unless they're nosey and peeling away my cushions, or it's one of you at a rally harassing me, or I show everyone who walks in because I can't stand not pointing out all the imperfections!!

With any luck I can actually start sewing today, and maybe get dressed- oh and shower ....

We had the same problem when we re-used fabric from our couch to cover our dinette cushions. The upholstry place used a vinyl material on the bottoms.

Worked great and was easier to keep clean. And they didn't charge me extra for it! ;-)

You're doing a great job on your Tradewind!

Well I did sew, shower, and dress. But I found another leak. It seams to be coming from the wheel well area. The water comes from under the plastic wheel well cover- about mid-way. There is no water coming down the walls or from the window nearby.
So all I can think is it's coming from two missing rivets on the exterior. One is a missing snap (above the wheels) and the other is a sheared off rivet at floor level, a little to the right of the wheel well but before the refer access door. There is no other signs of water flow to the area. It seems odd to me to leak water through a rivet hole and onto the floor. But then again the trailer is not level at the moment and that could be exacerbating the situation ?.

I have dried the water, taped over these holes, and await the results in the AM. It appears there will be rain till Wednesday!!

I still have the leak under the plastic wheel well cover. Is it possible that the exterior trim around the wheel well is leaking water? I can't think of any other place as no walls are wet. That is the only place I didn't caulk.

Here's a picture of my finished dinette cushions!!

This is really looking great! I wish I could see your custom dinette in person. If I park my 68 out in front of your house will you do it too?

the cushions look great. i have a few questions? what size foam did you use? do the cushions have zippers in the back, piping on the edges? also how did you get the pattern for the small cushion that fits in the corner(on the backrest)? we are in the middle of building our dinette and i'm already nervous about the upholstery job. i'll try and post some pictures soon.
oh , i'm sure our dinette measurements are different, but how many yards of fabric did you use?
