Yeah, even though yours is taking a bit longer (than expected)- I think you guys will have all your desires dialed in!
Hi Tanya,
I am working on a 1968 International Ambassador right now - 28ft. It is a wonderful trailer, with lots of light and cheer inside. It has upper windows over the front side windows, and a huge living room in the front. Perhaps something to consider if you're looking for something larger. This is a good compromise before going all the way to the 30 and 31 footers. It will still be tow-able by half ton trucks when I am done with it.
WOW, I am amazed at your dive in intensity and work that you have done. I just ripped out the 30 year old carpeting and put in new flooring, getting ready to do seams...
I need to find repair person to fix a rip, and get refig working again...who did you use?
My business partners husband is also a finish carpenter in McKinleyville!
Thanks
Dianne

After putting in all the new interior lights, one light, centered in the kitchen area, doesn't work. I tried new bulbs, and two different fixtures- nothing. The guy spliced in two new wires- one for the display on the refer, and one for the carbon monoxide detector ( which I haven't attached yet).
Is there anyone with ideas on what's happening? I also tried the mystery switch (one of two by the door) and it didn't do anything.

We're currently working on the counter tops. I ordered what I really wanted... and it was toooooo exciting for the tradewind... so I had to order new Formica, and will have to find a home project for the other$$$$!!! Darn!!
Who does your metal work? Which store has the sheeting? ARG every one I have called in Eureka has been a dead end, heading to airport tomorrow to see if anyone there does metal work. Hard to beleive we live in same town.
thanks for your thread, it is beyone awesome.
Cannot figure out how to start a new email to all so I'm hitching a ride here. I have a 59 Tradewind and have it gutted, have new floor in but the back, the support pieces that run from top to bottom do not hit the new floor board as they do in most of the other areas around the trailer. Does this area need to be double floored???? It is where the bathroom is so if I were to go with a new black box it would be here but I think I may go composting. Currently alot of wieght is sitting on just the thin aluminum frame and thats getting a little bent. I Know this is not good, any advice!

Hi there!
I had the shop by Rays and Best Western do some work- they have since been demolished- don't know if they moved... but I would NOT recommend them anyway due to a poor brake installation.
I have been buying parts from the guy by Piersons.
I ordered my exterior aluminum on-line and bought belly pan material from the Bay Area- I listed my sources somewhere in this thread...?
Other than that I did the metal work myself- riveting is fun and pretty easy.
Good luck and please post pics of your work!!
Tanya

Air port and guy by piersons just rolled their eyes
when I mentioned airstream. So I walked into Peterbuilt on Jacobs and 101, and ask kindly if they would not roll their eyes if I asked them a question (I was feeling quite sensitive as I forgot to intall the wings on the as before I went to airport). The Peterbuilt guys were nice, and its going in tomorrow for the patch, he will even cut the patch in a shape for me, just dont know what shape interests me at this moment in time. And he will attach the awning--the screws are hanging out.
Then its back home to caulk etc.
Dont think I can mirror it up, its soooo long. Trying to figure out the best way to at least clean and polish her up for the road.
My fingers are bloody from getting the screen door to line up today. Front door no longer latches, whenever there is weight in the front.
Oh, did you ever find anyone to work on the refigerator locally? It suddenly stopped, worked when I wrote the check, stopped in my driveway. I tried the leveling thing, maybe burbing it is next !
I loved your pics, I think I will leave mine old style retro, because it is easier I am less oc these days and more add--everything distracts me and wants my attention....especially the 5 kids.

Hi Tanya,
This is a good compromise before going all the way to the 30 and 31 footers. It will still be tow-able by half ton trucks when I am done with it.
This is exactly what I've been thinking. I like the towability of my length... just not the funcionality of all the bed folding- especially with the wide age range of my kids (3-16).
Congrats on the new project- it looks to be in fantastic condition!
Hi to you Don & Claudia!! Hope to make a rally this summer... we're off to Ireland at the end of the month. Can't wait- I'll be meeting cousins (many times removed) and seeing the places my family came from! Too bad I can't bring the Airstream- great pics to be sure!!

Hi Betsy, Welcome!!
I don't know specifics on your year- and I am pretty visually challenged without pictures. I can help you start a thread, but you might try searching using the search button and a few different terms like 'new floor' or 'frame support' - advanced search is a lot easier to sift through. Click on it and see what you can do.
To start a thread in your trailer's forum: At the top of the forum page, click 'Forums'. Scroll down until you find your 'model' name under 'trailers'- click on it. Then select your year. On the top left you'll find a 'New Thread' button- that's it!
Good luck to you!

Welcome to the forums. Good questions about your Trade Wind. I do recommend starting a thread for yourself. I decided to dive in when I started my bath/bed rearrangement. With a good inexpensive Kodak digital camera, and some time on the Forum how-to area, I managed to get going with a thread that is becoming very useful, with over 70 posts from experts and new friends.
Since floor repairs can get complicated, it would be best to start your own thread and start posting pictures so everyone who can help you will be able to give you specific advice.
I have a 1968 Trade Wind, and I have found that techniques of construction vary quite a lot from year to year or between different eras of ownership of Airstream. So, the more photos, the better, for getting some good help.
Although it's easy to jump into someone else's conversation about a different topic, your particulars will get lost and no one will be able to find you (easily). I've wandered into a hijacking situation before. People here are nice about it, but it's best to try to avoid.
Peace,
Anne
