Congrats on adding another to the stable. You have good taste -- it looks to have a good pedigree.

What's the next addition?

Cool hooks. GUARD 'EM! Those are the unobtainable Byam Hooks. You will be glad you have them.

Wide mounted tail lamps (outside of the rear panel seams) are standard on ALL 1961 to 1964 (I think) California built Airstreams regardless of whether they were intended to get a rear mounted spare tire. Ohio built Airstreams of the same period had narrow (inside of the rear panel seams) tail lights unless they got a factory mounted spare tire. In that case the tail lights might be on the seams or outboard of them. I should also note that many Ohio Airstreams of this period have narrow tail lights and spare tires, but it is unknown if this was because the spares were added later after the Airstream was already built. It is possible that some Ohio Airstreams of this period had narrow tail lights and factory mounted spares.

Can you see any evidence of a spare tire mount on the bumper? Have you found any red wally numbers on it? With it being a late 62 build, it might have been built to go on the Around the World caravan.

'63 was the only year for the piano hinge style.

Post lots of photos! (Specially of the latch that holds open the small door)

Thanks for all the nice words. I think I may have a small aluminum addiction!
As far as the next addition I just looked at a 57 Caravanner which is pretty cool. It was begging me to rescue it! If I were to rescue her I'd have to turn around and sell her to someone that would restore her. I have my hands full with what I have now.

Thanks, they are pretty cool. I'll have to find a nice place to mount them.

I'm loving this trailer and all it's hiding places. What were they used for? Coffee cups?

Thanks for all the info. I sure like the narrow mounted tail lights but ill likely mount a spare on the back so the lights are perfect where they are.
Thanks again for that bit of history, always cool to learn about these things.

Just the four to the right are Byam hooks. Here's a link to a catalog they were in. They are on page 20. Wally used them for lots of things!

Not to one up, but what about a byam hook that Wally Byam hung his coat on? How cool and rare is that?
