It is secured with screws. The fun part is finding them, all of them. It might help to post a photo.

I had to remove the counter top in my 66 Tradewind to remove the fridge. I don't remember the screw location, but it was well secured to the cabinet above and below.

Were the screws from the top under the counter top covering? In my case it appears to be covered with Marmoleum. I do not see any from the top. I am glad to hear the top was not glued. The cabinets are so lightly made I was afraid they would be glued for extra strength. I have not torn into the top because I have a trip planned but will be doing so soon. Thank Dan.

In my 67 they appear to be screwed in from the sides only. On the new ones I am installing, I am screwing down from the top prior to gluing on formica. Very strong but not so easy to remove in the future...

On my '67 Caravel, I recall the top being fastened to the cabinets from below (through cleats). The thin backsplash was nailed to the side of the wood sub-top and came off with the countertop after some amount of persuasion. For the renovation/restoration, I fabricated a new sub-top and had it covered with stainless steel

Personal choice

I put stainless in my last trailer and formica in this one. Both have Pros and Cons. I recommend getting what your wife wants:-)

Picture made me smile. Just ordered a similar sink and faucet, we have been looking at metal light switch covers and the similar back splash. Wife wants the same shades, and I keep telling her that the Tradewind has 9 windows. Formica, of course, will be used for the counter top. You did a great job!

Formica is so 1970. That stainless top is beautiful.
However, I think the look today is granite. Since that's not possible and the countertops are so small has anyone had new made from Corian?
I followed a thread of a new product (no, not Easy Start) where they did a coating on your old countertops to look like granite.

Laminate Counter Top

So we did some damage to the counter laminated counter top. 1974 Overlander so looks like I am going to have to make one customer or get it made. The side up against the wall looks to be formed up the backsplash so was wondering if anyone has tried to head and for the laminate to match. Very tight and heard laminate will not form that tight. Is this a true laminate(Formica) or did Airstream used something different? I could probably just cut a 2 inch piece the link of the counter glue and nail it to the underside if needed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ron

There are different grades of plastic laminate with different finishes & thicknesses. "Post-forming laminate" is thinner and can bend tightly - it's made for that exact purpose. It's available in all the same colors as the running lines from most manufacturers. Most millwork shops can help you out with it - it's not really a DIY thing...

The one you are looking for in Formica's line is "Grade 12 HGP". It makes the tight turns at coved countertops.
