Headroom in a Tradewind?

Hi, I'm an Airstream newbie wanna be and have been reading up on and researching different models for a renovation project. The tradewinds look most promising for what we have in mind, and there are a couple for sale I have my eye on. (Unfortunately nowhere near my home.) Can anyone tell me what the headroom is inside of a Tradewind? My husband is fairly tall, so that could be a deal breaker. Thanks!! Alison

My husband is 6'2" and has no trouble clearing anything in our A/Ss, including the interior AC shroud/cover. Your husband is tall enough that he is likely used to ducking on occasion, he might have to duck for the AC but I would think that would be all. And how much time does one spend walking up and down the trailer anyway?? We spend more time sitting than walking.

I love to look for excuses to go out to my Airstream . . . even at Mid-Night. My 1960 Tradewind has 6'-6.5" (78.5") Clearance - and I don't have a Roof/Ceiling Mounted AC System. Height will vary depending on the year. Good Luck.

(oh, and the door is much lower, which almost everyone has to duck to pass thru)

There is an Airforums member from Portsmouth I believe. His Airforums name is Aquaknob (sp) and he has either a Tradewind or an Overlander (2 ft longer).

The headroom in my 66 Tradewind is 6'-7" from floor to ceiling. The distance under the lights is 6'-4". I have no overhead AC.

Hi Allison. I think the mid sixties Trade Wind is a very ideal vintage Airstream. The 24' length is a nice size, and the dual axles add stability while towing.

All Airstreams are designed small compared to box trailers. We Airstreamers talk about the frequent head bonks while using the trailer. The entry door is only about 65 inches high. I'm 69 inches, and have hit my head too many times on the door. It's like camping in a Lear jet!

My Trade Wind has 39 wide by 75 inch long beds. The rear bath gets tight as the dome shaped end cap of the trailer cuts headroom.

I consider Airstreams a model for small space living. Every square foot of space it well utilized. I'm sitting or sleeping in the Airstream, or I'm outdoors exploring the location where we happen to be. The Trade Wind is much better than a tent! I'm dry, warm (or cool), have my own galley, and my own bed and bath.

You gotta find one and see if the tall hubby likes it!

My sister and hubby have a 1960 Tradewind , I have a 1963 0verlander. Both have adequate headroom for your husband (with the exception of the entrance door, DUCK! ) I will say that I find my sisters double bed setup is small , they find it doable ......but all in all, the extra couple of feet up front I have, and my twin bed set up I really prefer. Somewhere on this forum is reference to a "super bed" whereby the two twins are bridged into one superbed. Search Marcus and superbed . That's my eventual plan!
