Hi Brad!
Thanks for all the info! At the moment we're having issues with a lost title. I was told I could ship it without a title, just the bill if sale and sellers ID etc, but it seems not so we've been delayed. I'll attach pics of the inside and the serial no plate when I'm at the computer next.

Here's a few pics of our 1961 Tradewind, it's an International model with the double bed option. Serial no. I-241576-D, Ohio built.

It would be lovely if anyone here knew this Airstream and could share any information about it.

I have a question about this picture, what's the switch on the wall for, any ideas?

Not sure about the switch on the wall above the toilet. Could it be the electric water heater maybe?? Is it in the bathroom cabinet and electric only?

I have a similar 61 that does not have the switch. Water heater was on the other side of the trailer. Hmm....

the switch is for the 110 side of the overhead fixture. It is an Ohio thing I think.

New to this

Hello Everyone!
We are proud new owners of a Tradewind s/n 24DS S0546. Not sure what the second 'S' indicates. It's our first Airstream- still working on a remodel strategy.

Congratulations Adam & Louise. Welcome to the group. You'll fall in love with the TradeWind's size and ease of towing. Can you post more pictures? I'd love to see her.

I've been told the 'SS' in the serial number stands for Santa Fe Springs although I'm not certain.

Mine is 2241649T - Which is a 1961 24' single axle. Can anyone tell me what those numbers mean if anything? and the T on the end?

I think your numbers indicate 24 = 24' making it a TradeWind, 1 = for year of manufacture = 1961, 649 is the production number as it came off the assembly line = the 649th TradeWind from the Ohio plant and the T = for twin beds. The extra 2 as the first number is really strange and shouldn't be there. Please check that. Good luck with your refurbishment and please save any vintage items that you don't plan on using on the interior for others, such as original light fixtures, etc.

She is long and lean, a little taller than I am. Well travelled and a from a great family. 10 Years younger than I am. I spent some time with her the other night and the next morning I was told we are married. NOW WHAT??

Please add 240209T to the registry.

I want to do a new interior, but how do you tell a lady that she has to change.

Pics in registry streamin24.

Looking forward to being a part of AS Family and meeting all.

She looks like a beauty with a strange window set-up. The interior looks to be in great shape. Is that a solar panel on the roof?

More...tell us more. Your TW has been added to the Registry. Thanks for posting.

It took me several days to figure out what it was, I was combing through several different sites and think I came across one on here. Yes it is a solar panel, connects to an old Sears battery charger (no batteries).
All original inside and in decent shape for the most part, needs plumbing, potable water system, black water tank and some electrical help with the 7 pin umbilical cord. Has a pretty good bang in front of the left tire. It will be an adventure

Did it have an aluminum pressurized tank in the front or under the bed with a compressor? Maybe not now but at one time? Can you tell? Where's your water fill spout stick out? I know, I ask a lot of questions. I have a diagram for the Bargman 7 pin connector at home. let me know if you'd like me to post it.

If I can be of any long distance assistance, let me know. Glad to help.

Hey Brad,
Maybe at one time it did. When I got it there was a plastic tank under what was the Goucho (just a couch now) and one under the bed. The original filler is in the front left, the second is above and behind the right tire.

This in under the couch, pressure tank and some makeshift plumbing. All needs replaced

Hi Brad,
In the registry of your Tradewind you said that you had a replacement axle built with increased capacity. My 1960 has, i think, the original. What do you think are the pros n cons to solid with springs vs torsion?. Why didn't you go with torsion?
Regards,
Cliff

That's a great question Cliff. Back when I was just getting into this vintage Airstreaming thing, I didn't know much about axles, still don't. I took it to a place locally that could change out the hydraulic brakes for electric and found that would require a new axle. Just as well, since I had no idea the condition of or the treatment of the original axle. They told me they could beef it up a bit and I thought that sounded like a good idea so it went from 3500 pound to a 5000 pound. Glad I did.

Hi Brad,
The 5000 # upgrade makes a lot of sense. I'll bet the trailer rides higher.
I saw a comment that Frank ( Franks vintage trailers) made saying he would stay with straight axle n springs. There must be something to it. I still have time before I make that decision. Maybe I'll get a return from Frank.
Regards,
Cliff

Another one for the registry, 240341d. It's in Fort Collins, Co. I believe it was sold new in Pierre, SD.
