I also have a 66 Airstream, also live in KC, and my name is also Bryan! While my trailer is immobile right now. I would love to also meet with you guys. I still have a ways to go on my renovation and would really like to look at some good examples.

I checked with the owner, Danny O’Neill, who said his large parking lot will be open and to “Bring it on!”
No need to wait for an engraved invitation.

rock shield latch bar
So I got tired of pop riveting the interior walls today and took a break to make something to keep the rock shield latches closed. I riveted an aluminum washer to one end of an aluminum rod and drilled a hole for a clip in the other end. For lack of something better at the moment, I used a stainless steel nut in conjunction with the clip to bump up against the latch on that end.

Those moments of self creation are so rewarding. I don’t have that set up, so was this a recreation or something out of your mind? Either way, well done

Hey Dale. I have a couple of things. Bringing a guy with me on the 20th who just finished a ground up on an Argosy if that is ok. Also wondering if you can give me some insight on how your wheel wells were constructed. I am going to have to rebuild mine after my tire blowout. I looks to me likee I have an outer shell of metal or hard plastic and an interior cover made of fiber glass with insulation in between. As strange as it seems to me, after I took the tire off I had very little damage to outer shell while the interior fiberglass cover was torn up. I have been reluctant to tear into it until I get insurance estimates but plan on fixing it myself so, I am gathering materials and planning for the repair. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

Hi Tim. I had my stainless steel wheels fabricated at DC Tech, Inc., on 19th street in downtown KC. They are heavier than the old corroded galvanized wheel wells, but sturdy as all get out. I wanted ones that would take a hit from a land mine. They come close.

I like the look of those. Did you have a flap go under the plywood, over it, or just butt up against it? Getting between the plywood and frame may prove to be difficult for me.

Tim - any chance this is Lee? I know he was wanting to see our trailers. Wasn’t sure how to reach him regarding the 20th. Brian

Slats
Looking great. I don’t think you want to cover up those nice stainless steel wheel wells. They just look too good!

I laid the interior panels out on my deck, scrubbed them with a bleach/water solution and then power washed them. See page 4 #54 of this thread for an exemplar. After I put them back in I did nothing more before applying the water-based Kilz with a four inch brush, which worked well to get it into the textured vinyl cladding.

I love your idea and may steel it when we install our rock guard
