Thanks!
Thanks, Brad, I would love to have any info you can send me. I don't see the EMAIL button on this page to send you a PM. Am I missing something? I seem to be having techno problems with this site...sorry.
Yes, that is a solar light the previous owner put in the TV antenna holder. I like it!

Add me to the '59 Tradewind owners club, I just got mine today. She's got twin bunks and is going to be the perfect size of State/National park trips for our family. I'm looking forward to refurbishing her in the months/years ahead!

She is being polished this week, they started today. I'm going to go visit on Wednesday to see how things are going and snap some pics. I will post other before photos too in a new thread where I can chronicle my tinkering. We're getting excited about hitting the road with our girls to go have some fun!

Another 59 Tradewind
Hi Brad,
I have had this Calif. built Tradewind for a year and have already spent more hours on her than I imagined it would take to get it camp ready. I've been lurking on the Air Forums but finally decided to share my progress. I know how much I enjoy following the progress as others on the forum have restored their vintage Airstreams.

Thanks for posting Jack. I've added your info to the registry. Glad you stropped lurking and joined in. Do you have a booth or couch up front? Any pictures to share?

We were torn but decided on a u shaped dinette that has storage for the tabletop which makes it more comfortable for watching TV/movies

Did it originally have a couch or a dinette? I'll go check out your photos later today.

Any Other '59 Tradewind Owners Out There?
The trailer was missing everything in front of the door. I think it had some type of Goucho sofa. The original fresh water tank was missing, but the hole for the fill tube indicates that there was a tank at the very front originally.
There are no mounting holes in the walls at the front that would indicate a dinette.
I eliminated the two shelves that came stock above and below the front window.
With the end cap being polished it just didn't look right with the shelves.
I arrived at the dinette design after looking at what others have done, along with some mock up tries.

With the two vertical stacked windows just ahead of the entry door indicates it had a couch originally. Cool looking unit and you're doing some great work on her.

Brad, I think I tracked down another, a '62 TW from out west that just showed up in a driveway a couple miles from here. I'll see if the owners want to share their info.
They have been lurking and looking for quite awhile.

AnyOther'59 Tradewind Owners?
Thanks Brad,
Now I understand why you were asking if our trailer came with a couch or booth!
I can' t believe I never noticed that your trailer doesn't have the stacked windows in front of the door. It looks like on that style, the door is also a bit closer to the front.
Do you know if all the '59 tradewinds were "park models" with electric water heaters and no black tank?

Jack - black water tanks were available as an option in '63, I think, and on all models in '64. Grey water tanks came even later. My original water heater was a small apartment size electric model that was in the bathroom cabinet. It was all rusted out by the time I took ownership. I added a 120 volt/propane model in my restoration and measured about eight times before I cut a hole in the skin for the cover. I plan on putting a vintage cover over my existing one soon. I have the cover, just need to polish it and install.
You're dead on with the door location on the different models. Another item of interest is that all of my windows are the same size and have the size and style stamp in the lower fixed window frame. What size are yours? I forget mine at the moment.

Regarding windows
Brad,
There are 3 different sizes of windows. Front, back and curbside are 37.5 x
16.5". (glass size) three are 16 x 16". Two over the kitchen sink are 27.5 x
16.5".
I made a cover for my 10 gal. Atwood h2o heater out of some .032 5052.
The nice thing about that old water heater under he bath cabinet is there was no
large opening to patch.
The new water heater is in the closet. The electrical inlet is above that where
the stock fuse box was. I hope that is not some kind of code violation.
By the way I eliminated the "stripper pole" vent pipe that came out of the sink
that was done on the Cal made Tradewinds.

I got rid of that 'stripper pole' too. I ran the vent pipe up inside the hollow tub wall. We'll never fill the tub that high with water so it just needs to be above the highest water to ever go in the tub.
All of my windows are stamped 'HEHR 1009 1940' meaning the hole cut in the side of the trailer is 19" high by 40" long. They are a 1009 style of window, whatever that is.
Your water heater cover looks great. How did you get a chrome one? I inquired about getting mine chromed and was told the cheaply made cover wouldn't hold up to the chroming process.
