Jason tells me he got those off eBay, he thought it was a dealer out of Chicago. I checked and I found this link http://stores.ebay.com/HUBCAPS-TO-GO, and yes, they have them. I'm willing to bet this is the same. Next time I move the TW I'll get pics with the logo straight up. Yes, he thinks the galley light is a replacement set to work with the 12V.

Hello Sugarfoot ,
yes it was a greenish turqouise kind of tweed exactly. It appears you could option your landyacht with international items of choice as it was this and that, not all or nothing it appears.I have the tubes under the front from front to back, most are like yours crossways in front of the axle.i store one new sewer hose for an extended length if needed and for a spare in one tube.
the other should be for awning poles i believe ,I have the rail but no awning.
The other sewer hose and related stuff goes in the rear trunk compartment.
My heater blower has a wall switch for shore power or 12volts .you have a landyacht ,but with other optional stuff also ,as mine does.Yes the tv shelf is above the reefer. The middle vent with fan is 110 the rear vent has the vent
and the wires capped off ,no fan ,that could be for another 110 fan ,but the fan is not there ,no evidence it was or taken out your large fan is the same as mine ,but that smaller one seems added on that support bar seems quite
flimsy .At each end of the wall on the street side the length of the table you
might find to 1 1/2 inch long metal brackets that a strap wpould go thru
maybe ,you might not have them but those should be there even if the strap is gone.2 hose or pole carriers seem to be the more popular than just one.I
have no 12 volt outlet of any kind that I have seen .I have 6 115 double
socket outlets ,I in the bathroom ,another by the streetside table, one up front above the gaucho, one above the reefer ,another above the dresser
curbside and the last one above the double bed behind the front of the locking medicine or storage cabinet at the foot of the bed .It looks original
not added on ,looks like a customer wanted to be able to have a locked cabinet for security.I have alot of plug in options.

This may be your chance to redeem it. I noticed the the edge banding appears to be different from our bright gold metal. Maybe this changed in '63.

Hey Rob ,
That then is a 60 california trdwnd ,yes? I don't have anymore electrical plugs
for all your trailers ! Did you ever get the recepticle and plug installed? I havn't heard anything ,I suspected you probably have. You have alot of
airstreams there. The rear bath vent pipe makes me think its a 61 or 62.
As the 60 model year didn't have those that I have seen .It is unusual
looking inside ,different unique windows also .

Those unusual windows are for the bunk beds. One for the upper bunk and one for the lower.

the table is tabled for now

Dacia,

I've got more on the table than to get a new table at this point. The furnace & h20 heater are new atwoods and came at a significant price and the removal / install cost was also significant. I want to keep it roadworthy and make the inside colors and floor mellow....and of course, use it I'm not going back to the zolatone though I considered it and the checkered floor has GOT to go - as retro as others feel it is......

This threas has LOTS of info & I'll have to re-read much of it to grok it completely - thanks to all of you VAC fanatics! My wife is insisting on baby moonies & thanks for the chicago connection Y'all.

Bathroom vent pipe

Scott,

That pipe is on a 60. My first 60 TW has two rear vent pipes, one for tub and one for toilet. This new one is the same way. More later

Scott ~

I can verify the CA built '60 models had that vent pipe in the bathroom. Actually, so did my '59 originally. When I re-did the bathroom, I didn't put the full length pipe back in but rather just ran it up inside the straight tub wall. It's only about 14" tall or so and hidden from view.

What kind of commode is that? I've seen a few in pix before but never one in person. Do you know if its functioning? I can hardly wait for you to get it too.

Well ,Mine has a vent pipe inside the wall ,not that external one on the counter ,Safari tims ambassador has a vent in the wall ,not on the counter.
other 60s dont have it on the counter either .Wonder why there is a difference on the same years of trailers?I figure its a CA trailer thing.Mine
as we know is an ohio trailer.

Rob, I had seen it on eBay and I'm glad it's going to a good home. There is so much potential there. Airstreams really are like kids, each with their own unique personality even though they come from the same family. This one is a real gem. Can't wait to see what ya'll do with it!

Henry, I know what you mean about priorities. But you'll love those baby moons!

Hello tradewind owners,

I took a look at the 60 trdwnds on the photo archives. All the 60 CA
models with streetside commodes have a vent pipe on the counter.
The ohio models with curbside commodes have no vent pipe on the counter.
There could be exceptions ,but so far and inclucing mine ,sugarfoots also
being ohio trailers do not use the vent pipe on the counter.Further I did not
see ,it is hard to tell on this ,any vent pipes for the tub on any corner full
tub models including mine .So I would say it is a CA thing.

Good research there Scott. Looks like the the guys at the factories did things quite differently in a number of different areas.

Scott:

I believe the reason for the difference in vent pipe location is that Calif. built travel trailers were then subject to the Calif. Division of Housing mobile home regulations which, I imagine, specified a minimum distance from a drain trap to a vent pipe, thus requiring a vent pipe coming through the countertop in Calif. built trailers to meet that requirement. Airstream urged its Calif. owners to lobby for a travel trailer exemption from these mobile home regulations, but they didn't get it. Only a government regulation would explain a vent pipe coming up though a bathroom countertop.

Ohio trailers were not subject to these regulations, hence no small black Ca. Div. of Housing certification plate on the outside of Ohio trailers and no obtrusive vent pipes. I think the Calif. regs also accounted for the different toilet locations (streetside vs. curbside) between the factories from ~1958 to 1962. Toilet location was standardized in 1963.

I knew there had to be a reason and trust Fred to have the answer. Thanks Fred. Have you started writing your book yet?

Darn it Fred ,you are a wizard of knowledge!! You should really compile your
expert knowledge in a book ,you know everyone on the forums would buy it .
Thanks for the information .You know california ,where I am from and live
loves to regulate everything it can .Some good and alot not so good .And
well ,yes the vent pipe is not very pleasing in its factory spot .Fortunately
I don't have one .

thanks again ,great answer!

Hi ya'll in Tradewind land

Documenting my Tradewind has become an exercise in photojournalism. My goal is to have a detailed visual reference that others can use when they need it. There are more pics at 1960 Tradewind - As Found and I’ve tried to organize this massive database into a more logical sequence. Additions include more details of exterior, appliances, plumbing, storage, etc.
In the mean time, I’m having fun and learning more every day. I found that I have the double wiring package that was included with Internationals. Every light fixture has 12V as well as 110. The bed and bath fixtures also have a 110 receptacle located at the right end cap. How is one supposed to use the 110 receptacle located on the right side of the over sink light fixture itself? There is maybe ½ inch clearance between it and the wardrobe wall. Maybe it’s only the Ohio trailers that have this problem.
Has anyone else noticed that Airstream used what appear to be pieces of finished casework (i.e. varnished like the over bed storage) for the bottoms of some of the smaller storage drawers?
And Scott, mine does have the three windows streetside, but they are NOT evenly spaced. Don’t know why we’re different. I may have found those fittings meant to hold the original table streetside but the strap is long gone. Haven’t located the fittings for the TV strap yet. You know, its all in the details. I see on Rob and Zoe’s blog they have towed their “newest” Tradewind home. Can’t wait to see what ya’ll will do with it.
My Maiden voyage is still set for August 25-27 at the Harrison Bay State Park outside of Chattanooga. I now know the groaning old A/C must be replaced and plan to do a new and better front window unit for now since I haven’t located an original window for replacement. I still need to test plumbing and appliances . . . .so much to do . . . . so little time.
