'64 Tradewind

A few weeks back I had the disastrous issue of a new trailer came up on the used classifieds... I already have two, but this ones older and I love the butt end of the older trailers. I showed the ad to my hubby with the oh so sad look of oh my god I want it, but I have no money and him being as awesome as he is he said well why don't we drive up to see it...it was up on the upper half of Vancouver Island, We live in Victoria on the southern tip of the island, all day trip here we come

Well we loved it, came back to Victoria did some financial shuffling and made the trip back up the next weekend to pay for her and bring her home. We drove up the night before and spent the night in her so we would have time to do a run though of the systems in daylight hours. It was amazing I was just beeming the entire time, still am, she's beautiful...Like a little house, cute little bathtub and all. I could live in her, which is damn good cause as ya know I spent all my remaining money on her, and I am still at a point in my life where I have those darn mortgage payments. I'd better start earning faster. As some one said in a different thread "hey signlady with three airstreams why do you even need a house" Anyone got some free land around Victoria for a family of 5?

Anyway my guy is a bona fide mechanic so after looking her over he made the call to not hook up the brake system and therefore the lights as he said you need to be concerned that the brakes could lock up on you so we had brought a light bar from home and hooked it on the bumper. Since the tires on this girl were about 30 years old we had pulled a couple of the new tires off the argosy and put em on. We hooked her on up and drove her slowly home, she pulled great but a new axle and running gear will be in the works for her as soon as we can as this poor girl is 50 years old and she deserves them.

Here are some pics. I paid 6 grand for her. It may be high but they just never come up for sale around here.

Here are some pics

Oh I begged and pleaded with my hubby to please take it right to where we are going to store it while we finish restoring the Safari to sell it... but no...he had to stop at the house. I can honestly say I was embarrassed and I didn't want my neighbors to see I had picked up yet another one. But I sucked it up and quickly ran outside for a couple quick pictures before departing to the storage yard...I am now officially a nutbar...Click image for larger version

Yup so excited all I can think of is my airstream collection day and night, SO very happy, Wish I had acreage and the money to keep them all right now. My dream in retirement is to start an airstream farm on Hornby Island "the caravan experience with out the driving!".

When I get older and richer I will start to add to my collection again and make it work :-)

Boy, you have "aluminum-ites" pretty bad. A little worse than my two. I enjoyed reviewing the great pictures of your new Trade Wind. It looks like it is in good shape. The price does not surprise.

It's interesting to see how they changed during the 60's.

That's a lovely trailer, thanks for putting up pictures. I found it very interesting comparing your interior with our Ohio-built '61 - surprisingly similar but yours is noticeably more 'refined' (in a good way).

I have a quick question for you if that's okay, what is the switch in the bathroom for? We have one in our '61 and I can't fathom what it's meant to do!

I have a 115v switch like that in my galley that turns on the water pump. That's what I was thinking when I saw it.

Hmm, ya know I have no idea yet. I have been a good girl and not started puttering with her yet. I made myself park her in a field next to my buddy's 54 Boles Areo until I get the Safari restored to sell. As much as I want all three my budget does not allow for it. I spread myself thin to get her ☺ I'll post it once I start exploring her more and figure it out, but in the meantime if anyone else knows can you fill us in? Maybe for the pressure tank or something...This girls got all her original guts I can't wait to see what will work or be restorable to work. (Except the fridge us AWOL...anyone know what fridge she should have?)

Congrats on your great "new to you" find. She looks in very good shape. Of course we are a little biased.

Our first was a 65 TWind and when we picked up the 62 Ambsdr the plan was to sell the TWind but that is not happening now seems we were more attached that we realized.

Hittenstiehl, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having two trailers, Variety is the spice of life ;-)
Of course I have three...so my teenage son thinks I am completely nuts and keeps picking on me (facetiously). Although I think I may have finally shut him up this week by showing him the values that some of the excellent condition ones are pulling online. Know the little bugger is probably thinking ...hmm, future inheritance, but he's stopped bugging me :-)
