I just purchased a 63 tradewind 2 weeks ago on ebay nice body except fender needs new aluminum rivited in had blow out whew It does not have a bathroom so I have been looking for the tub for about a month now. Thank God I found it!!!!

Now what were gonna do is rip all the old floor wood out clean up the frame put new subfloor down and put all new wood cabinets in but keep original tub and buy new toilet and sink does anybody know if I could put green treated wood in the subfloor? also im going to switch all running lights on exterior to L.E.D got tires in shop now getting redone original (sand blasted and powder coated black) and putting the old moonie hubs on. also can someone tell me how to put pictures on here? Ill try to put as many pictures as I can on

Welcom to the forums and the Trade Wind Club!

Stay far away from anything treated for the flooring. A few problems are; is is wet with the treatment so it never really dries. Contact with the aluminum skin is also bad, plus all the emisions from the wood itself. If you are truely replacing the floor you will need to pull the shell off the frame.

can i remove the floor without lifting the shell? or is there risk the shell could drop?

You can remove/replace the floor without taking the shell off.

A lot depends on how extensive your repairs and modification will be. If you plan to put in a greywater tank and do an axle switch it might be better to take the shell off. If you just want to do a quick floor replacement it would be better to leave the shell on.

You can't use green treated because it contains copper and will corrode aluminum.

Im missing the fresh water tank does anyone know what size was put in when new? Also I was told you can replace the black tank with bigger size?

can I rivet the olympic bulb with a regular gun? Also are there any suggestions on keeping the original water heater? Thanks

Congrats on your Airstream! You will love it once you get to go camping! The people you will meet are really great folks and I suggest you find a rally to attend as soon as you can!

About your original hot water heater. We have a 1963 Bambi that is totally restored, and we had the original Bowen hot water heater in ours. Is that the make of the one in your 'stream? I will look on my husband's thread on the restoration of our Bambi and see if there are any pictures/explanations about the hot water heater and post the link. Also about the shell off/shell on thing. I recommend a shell off. More work, better in the long run. While the shell is off you can re-insulate to much higher standards, and upgrade the electrical to something that will actually work with modern appliances and use.

All my knobs on closets are gone the knobs for the overhead cabinet are still there there silver and have whole assembly with them hope this helps

she is allmost all gutted we were thinking of just cutting a 4ft wide piece of the subfloor out all the way down so we could reinsulate and put all pipes and gas lines and wires back under belly pan the 4x8 sheet in bathroom will have to be replaced to other then this area there are 2 small areas rotted to the wall (by the door and front left behind the curve we figured getting in there by taking off banana strip on outside or cutting into the wall on the inside also we were thinking of upgrading the holding tank by 5-10 gallons and adding a 33 gallon fresh water tank does anyone know what came stock for fresh water tank? mine did not come with one we ordered lots of parts from vintage trailer supply but there on back order so have to wait on them the frame so far looks good with black paint still on it!! with minor surface rust on edges I read here somewhere that the area to watch is by the axle have not gotten that far yet hopfully its ok still waiting on tires to get done too I have some pictures on here somewhere of the floor still new cant figure out all the way yet lol will try to post some pictures on this thread until next time, Todd

I don't know about the tradewind... our Bambi had a galvanized pressure tank for fresh water, 20 gallons. We still have the original tank and it works really well.

If you increase the size of your holding tank be sure and research how much the additional weight will add to your axle and if your frame can support it. I know my husband beefed up our little frame a bit just because it seemed a bit wimpy... Do you have a single axle? Double? I would check with others who have rennovated Tradewinds! Who out there are Tradewind experts?! Speak up!

Update I can remove whole floor without removing shell got tub got new dump valve new water heater and new fresh water tank and everything is coming along lovely i also talked to a buddy who has been in body work for 20 years he said it is much much easier to leave shell on whew what a relief also picking rims up on monday and ordering some zolatone and linoleum flooring which is supposedly the best you can buy looks like real hard wood floors and is called IVC Flexitec Magno Cannes 748 check it out at google nice stuff with things running so smoothly she should be done by 4th of july and then its time to sing on the road again I'll be taking some pictures this weekend to add to my photo deal on here until next time see ya

Update Ivc magno linoleum was absolutely crap glad i just bought a sample first before making full order got the zolatone just bought a tankless water heater and all the faucets also getting ready to polish and seal exterior all interior has now been gutted and total new floor in 7/8 im 215 and man she is solid made mistake on linoleum tho thought i could get by w/out leuon but was wrong can see seams, i have to rip linoleum back up and do over total cost for mistake 200 bucks also found axle from minneapolis axle distributer for 650 complete inland wanted way more talk about shysters . Also dump valve from airstream dealer was 50 % cheaper then inland My motto is stay far away from inland rv unless you absolutely need them they are very high priced and would love to make an extra buck on you

Yaaaaaaaaa Hooooooooo I just bought a brand new Dexter axle 6000lb cap complete for 511.20 total minneapolis wanted 650+tax 692.25 What i did is research the whole state found that country is cheaper then city hopefully this will help out anyone in need of one of these puppys until next time take care of yourself whoever you are

We finally got the flooring laid. I went to home depot, menards, and lowes and couldnt find the same stuff i used the first time. So I ended up going with the ivc plankboard

. I know in previous thread I called it crap but it actually looks nice and is a 1 piece deal compared to the other vinyl I used. Which was 4 sheets. I went with this because it looked the nicest out of everything else. The thing I do not like about it is that it seems like it will scratch easily. (example: if you get a rock in your shoe). I figure If I make people take there shoes off It will have a long life. Im in the process of completion in 20 days. Hopefully atleast 90% done

lol. I'll post more pictures as I continue.

Update: Time to have custom maple cabinets made (over 200 ft of 1x6) and installed. Im still not done lol Talk about alot of work I never realized how much there was to do. I still need to buy ac and fridge i figure wait on those till shes done.
