62 Tradewind Toilet,Curtain, & hood

Some Help Please,

As a new owner of a 1926 Tradewind I am looking for a few things.

I would like to find a porcelin toilet. I've heard you can buy new ones.

I am also looking for two curtains, the ones that go between the kitchen and bedroom and the bedroom and bathroom.

One last thing. I believe there was a hood above the stove. Can anybody tell me if this is correct? Also does anybody know where I can get one?

Thanks in advance

Scot

Hi Scot,

Of course you meant to type 1962 Tradewind....

The only maker of porcelain toilets these days that I know is Sealand. Some folks say they aren't much more in cost than the Thetford stuff, but I've not priced them.

Those vinyl curtains seemed to last forever, but tend to get ugly with age. Your AS's PO probably trashed yours. Short of an RV junkyard I don't know where you'd find them. I will say from the looks of the ones in my 79 Argosy they would likely have fit in my 63 Tradewind just fine.

My 63 Tradewind didn't have a range hood, just a vent with a fan located on the wall that sucked the heat and smells outside. My 79 Argosy has a range hood.

Hope this helps.

While I don't think that you will find an "exact" match for the accordian doors that were likely used in your coach, they are readily available today. You can find them via a number of sources in a number of different materials. I tried to find OEM replacements for my Overlander, but the company that made the originals is evidently out-of-business or has experienced a name change in the past four-decades. I am still using my originals, but the thread in all of the seams in the green vinyl is failing so soon I expect to find them in a large heap in the middle of the floor. I have found potential replacements (some require a special order taking two to eight weeks):

Lowe's Home Improvement - - several styles in fabric, laminate, or wood veneer.

Menards - - several styles in fabric.

True Value Hardware - - only one style in industrial grade off-white vinyl.

Associated Lumber - - several styles in fabric and one in wood veneer.

Camping World - - one style in off-white vinyl (this was sometime ago so may have been discontinued by now - - it was "catalog-only" at the time).

So far as your range hood is concerned, I don't know whether your coach would have had one originally. It seems that several (if not most) of the 1960-1963 coaches that I have seen did not have a range hood while most of the post 1964 coaches that I have seen did have one. The one in my '64 Overlander is a fairly typical RV range hood that could likely be sourced from most any RV parts supplier that carries such parts and accessories.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin

Boy, I didn't catch that one. I only re-read my post twice.

I'm also looking for the glass lamp shade and mantels for the gas lamp.

I'm also missing the shades for the lights that stand upright on the sides of the table

Thanks

If the gas lamp that you have is a Humphrey's(sp?), I believe that they are still readily available. The last time that I was in a Cabelas, they had both the lamp as well as a full range of replacement parts stocked in the store. They only list the lamps, mantles, and the Pyrex shades in the on-line catalog, but I believe that they carried an even greater variety of bits and pieces in the store that I visited two years ago.

Inland RV might be your only hope for reproductions of your wall mounted lamp shades. I am not overly hopeful on that count as the only shades that I have seen in the catalog are for ceiling lights. If they have them available, I think that you will find the quality very good - - I know that I am thrilled with the new shades that I purchased from them for all of the ceiling lights in my '64 Overlander.

Scot,

I had a 1961 TW and now own a 62 TW, the 61 I had had no stove vent at all, and this one has a fan on the wall above the stove with a chain that opens the flat to vent the heat from the stove. I found this to be one of the improvements that Airstream made from one year to the next. The other big improvement was the venting of the propane fumes from the fridge went directly up into the trailer on the 61 TW I had, this was smelly, dangerous and frankly hot as hell in the summers down here in the south, couple that with not venting the stove as well, the unit was an oven and I finally decided to sell for that reason.

The pleated vinyl tambour doors are still available and you want the ones that are 75 in. as that type would fit correctly. Now, mind you, I haven't seen the ones I've seen advertised but they at least look right in the photos, http://www.campingworld.com/browse/s...=7544&tab=spec and aren't that expensive.

Hope that helps.

Had me going there - thought a long lost 1926 trailer had been found !

Are you looking for the whole toilet with the mechanizm? Because I have one without the mechanizm - just the porclean part if that helps.

Hi Scot -
Too bad its not a 1926 Trade Wind. That would be interesting.

My '59 has the in the wall exhaust vent over the stove. A friend's '60 TW had the hood. I thought (incorrectly by the replies here) that was an upgrade from the earlier year. RJ's archive page shows the hood in a '60 Trade Wind trailer. Its the second one listed.

http://www.vintageairstream.com/arch...wind/60TW.html

In all of the trailers of thsi era with the hood, it was laways the color of the stove top and oven door. Most of these colors have been the brown as shown but other colors I've seen include white and a light yellow.

The original toilet in my '59 was a Sani-Ware with an aluminum base and a porcelin bowl. I broke the base trying to get it out of the floor. It was so stuck, something had to give. I got another one from a '62 Flying Cloud. I just went out and looked at it and couldn't find a name on it. There's a picture of it here:

Best of luck on your refurbishment.
