Hi Rod,
Looks like you get up early. I logged into the chat later than usual, My sister and her family were in town from Denver. Think I missed a couple of folks on the chat. That thread on polishing is called "Finally Got Started" and there's at least 10 pages of worthwhile info on polishing. A compounder is the way to go for the first go 'round. Cyclo afterwards.
Your door handle poses a different problem. No one makes a replacement for the one we have. You'll need to fix what you have or replace the whole darn thing with something else that has a different footprint which will require making patches to cover the tall opening left from the original. Steve in TX did a great job of putting in a new one, maybe we can convince hime to post some pictures. As for me, I would do eveything I could to fix the original one before considering replacement. I look forward to more pictures of your TradeWind.
Hi again Brad,
Found that tread a few days ago and have read it over a couple of times. Here's a photo after about 6 hours of rubbing with some Mothers Polish that I had laying around. Just wanted to see if it had a chance of being as pretty as some of the ones I've seen on this forum and I think there is hope.
Power Tools and Nuvite look like the way to go on this project.
Hi Rod,
That's the door handle and typical breaking spot. The door won't lock without the bottom part of the handle. If you'll look, the bottom part has a slot in it where it goes into the facing. When the key is turned a part goes into that slot and locks the door. How's your metal working skills?
If that's what Mother's polish does by hand, your TW will polish up nicely with the right tools. You'll be amazed what you can get done in 6 hours "with just a little more power."
Hi All,
Brad, thanks for the reply on the door handle, still planning my plan of attack on it. I'm been cleaning and polishing a little catch as catch can. The T-Wind smells more like Bounce now and less like a mouse palace. Ain't seen any more meeses or any new signs of them in two and a half weeks now. I think I've either got them all, and/or scared them off, and/or the Bounce sheets were more then they could handle.
My dad-in-law and I were talking a week or so ago about polishing and I was telling him about the cyclo polisher. He said "I think I have one of those around somewhere that I bought several years ago for the Airstream." He showed up last night with a box that had the cyclo web address on it and a polisher inside that looks and smells brand new. I asked him about it and he said he'd just never got around to using it. 2 + 2 is not adding up but what can I say besides "he's a sweetheart". He also brought down an older orbital auto polisher and I picked up a $45 polisher and we'll be test driving them this pm. Hope to get the De Walt drill for the job one of these days but it ain't in the budget yet.
Hi Don,
Thanks for the great photos and info. This ain't anything like I've got and yours makes a lot more sense. What I have looks more like something from a front dinette model now that I see yours. It has a single leg under the table and a appears to attach to the wall somehow.
