Shari

Did you have something to say about the second "S"? All that came up was the quote from flyfshr..

Thanks

Yeah...Santa Fe Springs meaning it was built in CA rather than OH.

Shari,

Thanks,

I guess I didn't catch that. I may have been a little brain dead after being on the internet all day.

I have also found a 1965 Tradewind in for sale in the area. Any ideas from anybody on which would be a better purchase? I haven't looked at it yet. He's asking $3500.00

Thanks

Scot

'62 vs '65

No problem Scot...we all get blurry-eyed at times!

Between a '62 & a '65, I think it's a real personal choice. Couple of differences I'd like to point out:

1. '62 should have Zolotone on the walls (unless it's been repainted) where as the '65 will have vinyl-clad panels.

2. The cabinetry style is pretty different between the two...I believe '65 has vinyl wallcovering on the upper cabinets and metal trim accents on the uppers & base cabinets whereas the '62 is all wood.

3. '62 has 7 segments and '65 has 5 on the exterior end caps

None of these things are deal-breakers one way or another, they're just personal preferences as to which is "better". The biggest issue is whether one feels more "right" than the other...that and condition. You may want to perform a search through the archives here to find several lists of "What to look for when buying a vintage trailer"...I know there are several threads that discuss this in detail. You are better off in the long run to buy one for a little more money up front, if it's in better condition overall, than to DIY.

Good luck with your search ~

Hi, Scot.

I concur with Shari. The three issues in no particular order are: 1) which one suits YOU the best, 2) which one is in the best condition, and 3) which one is the best value (price to condition). After you see both, and you know what to look for condition-wise, the trailers will pretty much make your choice for you. One will undoubtedly be cleaner, in better condition, a better value, or "just the one" for you.

Happy hunting!

Roger

I'm still looking at this 1962 Tradewind. Should I be concerned about Shell Separation? When I jump on the back bumper, the bumper moves a little and the shell doesn't move quite as much but is still moves. Also, this trailer has a bumper that sticks out from the back of the trailer at least 12 inches. Is this normal for this year of trailer?

I've had some time to check out all the systems and appliances and it seems to be in pretty good shape except for a few minor problems.

Thanks for your help

Extended bumper

Hey Scot - I don't think the back bumper sticking out 12" was done by the factory, possibly the dealer did it to put a spare tire holder between the trailer body and bumper? Maybe a prior owner did it to mount a utility box or generator? One never knows. Sounds like you've got a good trailer on your hands. Post some pictures when you can, so we can all see.

Congrats! Well Scott, that makes 2 of us. We just purchased a '67 2-axle tradewind that didn't look anything like those 2 in the picture, and just got on this board today. Love to see those pictures, and we will try to post some of ours.

We bought ours knowing it needed work, but as a rehab contractor, all I do is fix up old stuff, so this is right at home.
