1961 Tradewind Purchase
Hi,
I am new to vintage Airstreams, although not to vintage trailers or camping. I recently purchased a Trade Wind. It is titled as a 1961, however the layout matches the 1960 model. I assumed it was manufactured in late 1960, and sold and titled in 1961 but...
The production number is 24DSS0670, which, according to the information on the early models would seem to be later.
Also, although the trailer appears mostly original, I cannot find the same overhead cabinets in any pictures I've seen.

Hi Barbara,
I couldn't access your photo, so I'm not sure which cabinets you want to see. I have a 61 trade wind and can post a photo if I know what cabinets you're comparing.

Perhaps you could describe the cabinets instead?

Beautiful! They were worth the wait.
Our '61 has a different layout. Will post a few photos of similar angles soon. We've cleaned the inside and removed the carpet, but nothing else yet.

That's very nice, too! I was pretty certain that the layout changed from 1960 to 1961 and mine matches the 1960 layout - however, it is titled as a 1961 and the production number appears to be 1962! I guess I'll just love it as it is and quit trying to figure it out!
Really confusing to me is the cabinet above the fridge. Brad (from here) told me that Airstream did a lot of custom work and thought that maybe that is what this is.
I'm still trying to figure out the WBCCI number and what year it was registered.

obviously the bumper could have been replaced at some point in history, but I don't think they were using any of those past '60 . . .

Thanks, Mark. So what I know so far is that the AS has a 1960 layout, hydraulic brakes that suggest 1960, a bumper that suggests 1960, a title that says 1961 and a production number that says 1962!
