Hmm. Been looking for one of those trips you can start early on a Friday. I'll see if I can get up there in the next month.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the update!! I am modeling my '57 Caravanner after yours, so I really appreciate you giving an update. I do have the same solar that you bought originally and am hoping that will be just fine with our part time usage. I feel I can always supplement with portable panels as well. I do have a hepvo for the shower, but have not installed it yet. So that is good information about the smell yours was emitting. Maybe a shower would not have the same problems, but maybe not. Hope you have a great summer, and when I am done with mine, I hope to travel up North to visit maybe.
Thanks again,
Carolyn

Nice to see your update Steve, it looks like the miles in Island girl have been good, with many new adventures. Hope you have a great summer! The nights we spend in Nellie are and the miles we drive to the next destination are more exciting every year!

Hi Steve
Glad to get an update on your travels and extended road testing of the trailer. We have shelved the 57' Custom project until a workspace and other obligations are resolved. But I still blame you for causing our belated attraction to this era AS and that fact that it ended up it our yard.

But this will allow more time to collect materials and parts until the right time comes around.

Then I will have to read Island Girl thread again from the beginning.

Thanks for the update and keep it up.

Gary

Hi Steve, can you tell me how you feel about the layout? The wet bath in particular. Do u feel there is enough room in there? Anything you would change about the layout?

Thanks,
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

Don't think I'd change anything on the layout from the way it is.

The wet bath has been fine and I use the shower all the time. Size has been fine. I ditched the door and just use the shower curtain to close it off and that gains some space. The door opening is smaller and the lower sill is much taller which helps to contain the shower spray. I also moved the plumbing fixture to the rear bulkhead next to the bed which makes the plumbing run simpler and keeps the water lines from running through the bath. I wipe the bath dry after showering and use a little vinegar to keep it clean. No soap scum after three years.

Otherwise, all the changes I made to the Caravanner layout have worked well. Fresh and gray tanks are in the frame and hang down 4 inches. The big tanks are great--don't have to run full, but it sure is nice for extended boondocking which I do a lot. They are uncovered and that hasn't been an issue. Putting those sliding bins in the wardrobe really helps the storage. Very happy with the recliners.

Cheers,
Steve

First She Had to Take a Ride on a Boat

Thanks Steve. When I have it drawn on the floor it looks so small in there. I didn't get to be in the bath when I first got the trailer as the floor was rotted through there. Your input is great.
Thanks!
Carolyn

Over the last 8-10 hours I have read this thread from the first post to the last one. I have made several notes based on the wealth of information here, even though I'm dealing with a different year/model. You are such an inspiration....I've fought through tears over the last few pages....but I'm so glad you're doing well with the full-timing. Thanks for following along on my thread & offering insight.

Great meeting all you Malimishers finally after following your blog for years. Brissy was totally unimpressed by your drone, Dan.

Cheers,
Steve
