Any advice as to installation of that furnace? Did the chimney pipe and exhaust cap that came with the furnace work for you?

Thanks for a great (and inspiring) thread.

Hank
Yes Hank, the pipe and cap worked fine. I added one extension piece to the pipe (they've got several lengths available). It's an easy install and doing the double wall pipe, the outside doesn't get nearly as hot so you're not worried about excessive heat on the cap and pipe. It works the best with the 12 volt vent fan on it working and it is low draw if you're boondocking. For that matter, it works ok with the fan off, so only using propane.

Feels solid, Spike. It's really loaded right now and pulls out easily. It's very solid slider. When it is all the way out the support must only be about six inches or so, but there is no sag that I see. Hope the snow doesn't get you and Sue too hard back there.

cheers,
steve

Pantry Latch

Steve,

Check Lee Valley Tools for push latches. I installed one on the safari pantry in 2008 and it has made many miles. Only becomes a problem when you fail to push the latch to lock it.

The part number I used is no longer available, but a search on push-button latch or push knob latch turns up a couple of likely candidates.

Thanks for that, Jim. They do look like they'd work pretty well for this. Like you said, the only problem is operator memory and the way it's been going for me lately, I'm not sure I'm up to that part. Yesterday I went to town to pick up our mail, put it down on a table while saying hi to someone, and remembered that I didn't have it when I was about ten miles down the road.

Started work on yours yet?

Thanks, Terry. Photography can hide a bunch of sins, but she's good enough to make me happy. Don't think I'm nearly up to the quality level of some of the folks around here.

cheers,
steve

My prayers are also with you. There are no words that can help what you are feeling, but keep that last picture in mind. Pam was happy, largely due to you ...and her wonderful caretakers. That counts for a lot.

I'm soo sorry to hear that. You took such good care of her. She was a lucky lady to have had you as her life partner. i lost my grandmother the same way and know that it is really a labor of love those last few years. Peace be with you, you are in our prayers.

Hello Steve

I have followed your stories from the first post and have been amazing by your work and the way you have carried on throught all.

I know there is no other way than to just keep going but I think Island Girl must have helped keep you moving forward. And look how great she came out!

It looked to me like you and Pam shared a very interesting life together. Thanks for letting us see a few glimpses of it through the photos and stories.

Gary

Thanks very much everyone. Brissy the cat, who has had a very tough time with this, and I do appreciate it.

Pam had a very gentle and peaceful passing Tuesday night with just the three of us in Island Girl. I'm so happy for that.
