Steve had your thread open for over an hour trying to think of what even to say. Marc said it so well. You are in our prayers.

Steve,

Like so many others who have posted, I have read this thread through from the beginning as soon as I embarked upon my own project, and instantly came to know your story and life through the way you talked about Pam (and Island Girl), and it was evident how much love there was in your life, but I know that love will not stop. That is the most important part, that we all know your type of character will keep her alive through memory and in a part, through Island Girl.

My deepest condolences,

Peter.

Steve,

I am so sorry. You are an inspiration and I am so glad that you were able to be Pam's caretaker. As everyone has said, your life together is such an inspiration. The following is a poem that was given to me by the hospice caregivers for my mom four years ago and it still brings tears, but there is comfort in it for me:
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts
for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until at length
she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come
to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says; "There, she is gone!"
"Gone where?"

Gone from my sight. That is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull
and spar as she was when she left my side
and she is just as able to bear her
load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone
at my side says, "There, she is gone!"
There are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad
shout: "Here she comes!"

And that is dying.

~Henry Van Dyke
You are in my prayers,
Tina

Thanks, Tina. That one has been in my collection for awhile. It's a beautiful poem.

And thanks again to everyone for the kind words and thoughts. I'm sort of a pitiful old guy right now, but I'd be far worse if it hadn't been for this old Airstream and a lot of nice people on this forum and in the blog to help keep me going.

Chillpoints and others have said it pretty well. We are so sorry and you will be in our prayers. You were the best soulmate ever to Pam.

Steve - I too have been in & out of this thread for hours, wondering what could I possibly say that could help to ease some of your loneliness & pains. I too gave care to the lady I loved for something close on to 4 years until her frail mortal body couldn't go on anymore. As her Dad had been a sea captain for years, she put her own spin on this poem and it gave us both a great sense of peace. My last words were to wish her "fair winds & following seas". Among the many many lives I'm sure you & Pam have touched, I'm sure that like myself you will find more expressions of heartfelt well well wishes and offers of help within your Airstream Family than you might imagine.

We've all admired your craftsmanship & hard work, but more so your loving care of Pam. I wish you peace.

Steve, I'm another fairly new person to the forum, but I read every one of your posts on this thread, and was so inspired by all your work and by your life with your darling. I'm so sorry for your loss. She'll be missed by even those of us who have never met either of you in person.

I hope someday we'll meet you somewhere on all of our travels, and best wishes and thoughts to you and Brissy as you start a new chapter in your lives.

Steve,
Thanks for including us in your life these past few years. You've been an inspiration not only as an alum-a-room restorer; but as a courageous, committed, caring human being.
You and your family are in our prayers. Sully and Jenny

so sorry

I stumbled across your thread tonight, while researching options for an upgrade. I read your posts for the past year and a half and was amazed at the beautiful work you have done on Island Girl. I cried when I read about your visit with the original owner, that was very touching. But I was very saddened to read about Pam. Through your words you made her part of the forums and although I just read this thread for the past hour, I felt like I knew you both. May God bless her soul and comfort you in knowing that you did your best caring for her and made her smile.

Thanks, Iolani. That's a pretty nice first post on the forums. Welcome.

Sort of a rough ten days or so for Brissy and me, but she's started the last couple of days to demand some play time again, so she's feeling better.
