New to forum 1959 Airstream

Hi New to forum Never posted before, hope I'm doing it right, also hope in the right place... If not just let me know..Just acquired a 18 ft. no name (??1959??)airstream not finding anything that quiet matches Ca floor plan. The problem I'm having is can't find any with the curb side rear bunk bed. Not sure this camper could have been with Wally Byam caravan. Does anyone know how to acquire information with the serial # and/or the caravan #. Thanks for any info. someone might have.

Welcome to the forum. I don't have any information on your trailer, but I'm sure someone will soon chime in with help for you.

when you post go below the text box to where it says Additional Options and then "manage attachments". Then upload your photos.

I have a 1960 18' Traveler and I wrote the company to get information. I provided the serial number (on the tag by the door) and the VIN number - or at least what I thought was the VIN.

You might also want to Google your trailer and see if anybody has any additional info.

I also have a 59 CA 18' trailer, and I too am new to the forum. Our trailer is very similar to yours but without the bunk beds. Our dinette was redone by a previous owner so I'm interested in how yours works. The shape of your table doesn't appear to match the lips on the bench seats. If not, where is the board that spans the benches.

We have a bed where your bunk beds are that folds out into a "double" bed - so the back looks like a sofa area when the bed is put away. From my dismantling, I doubt that the configuration is original, but I'm not sure. The cushions certainly appear to be original.

Last week I started a restoration of the tailer. I have removed the interior, the lower interior wall panels, and part of the floor. I've concluded that dropping the belly pan will make life simpler so I'll start that next week.

I removed the interior intact and may reuse it - I'm not sure.

We've never owned a trailer and our '59 is very basic - no water heater or water pump. Reading the forum has gotten me this far, but I'll have lots of questions as the summer progresses. I'll help you if I can, but I don't have the experience available from others in the forum.

Good luck with your project

Stan

nutforsilver, welcome to the forums.

Two things you'll find about this group. They like (love lots of) pictures. And, they have the answers (lots of answers).

So, go to the top of the page and click on FAQ, then click on Reading and Posting Messages, then on Attachments and Images. You'll get the directions you need there.

Good luck, have fun and enjoy the journey....

59 Photos

Here are a couple of photos of my 59 Traveler. I took photos as I worked on the trailer so if you need to see something as you go about your restoration I might be able to help.

59 airstream traveler

Hi Stan My 59 has wraparound dinette in front almost u shape the board to make a bed was laying on the bunk bed when we bought it.I hope to finish the dinette complete wraparound with the back of the sitting area being the part under the window.I will be taking out the larger table an replacing it with a smaller table i think .I have been stripping the paint on the inside front nose (mistake)lots of work.Where is your bathroom? I suppose my is a 59 i have never ran the serial number.I checked on vintage airstream and there was several that looked like mine but without the bunk beds that was a option.Good luck with your project you will find this site to be a good resource.
