Our newest baby....1959 Pacer
I have officially become a victim of the same disease everyone else on the Forums seems to be suffering from with the latest Airstream we brought home today.
Sat in a barn in ND for quite awhile and outside for a long time too. The guy I got it from says "No leaks." and also there are "no mice." My dog went crazy when she came into it and she hates mice. Hmmmm...
The outside is going to need some work, the belly skin has more holes almost than solid skin, and the interior is a bit of a wreck. I took a number of photos today and will post them as I can. I must say this is the first time I have ever seen the inside of a fridge with contact paper on it.
There are some other items that I can't quite figure out what they are...I will post pictures later of those too so people can tell me what they are.
We aren't anywhere near being done with the Albatross but this one will wait for us to get to it. Nice to see it sitting in the yard and it is a nice complement to the 31' Sovereign. Looks like the start of a collection and to think, no leaks or mice.

Very nice find Sandy. Shell looks really good, only one scar that I can see. Pretty shiny too. Interior looks all original, the Marvel fridge is cool. It would be neat to retrofit a new one to use that door of the Marvel.
I think that the unpeel and stick tiles need to go.

Congrats Sandy! That is a great little trailer! I'm very happy you have rescued it. I'm sure it'll get lots of love and attention!

Thanks....she's been ours just a few hours now and finding an Airstream in ND is difficult to say the least. He has another one for sale and I am going to try to get that as soon as my husband calms down from me dragging this one home today .

I am hoping I can let you loose with a putty knife once you arrive for use on the peel and stick on the floor and contact paper in the fridge

Thanks Top,
Finding it was a long haul and so amazing how it ended up that I found out about it. Even more amazing was the fact that my daughter and I drove up to look at it today and I towed it back. I have never towed a thing in my life so this was a big step. A little nerve wracking but we did just fine. I am not sure how many people took the ditch behind us though !
This is going to be fun and we are going to give it lots of attention after we get the Albatross done. Much less of a project going from a 31' to an 18". Should have started with this one!

Very good looking find.
Please keep us posted -- I'm curious about how much less work it really entails.

What are these items?
There are some things that I am not sure of their purpose in the trailer and if someone knows, please let me know. One is a wire contraption mounted on the inside of the closet, one is above the full length mirror just past the closet, and the other is the black circle object on the cabinet above the MIA toilet.
Are the hooks in the picture the fabled Byam hooks or am I dreaming?

Thanks John,
I am thinking nothing is going to be the work we have already done with the shell off complete rebuild of the frame 31' Sovereign we have started on. This one looks like a piece of cake compared to that one. Now, I just hope we don't start into demolition and discover another disaster. If that happens, I am going to give up on getting any more because we won't live long enough to get anymore done.

It appears that the exterior door handle is broken. This happened a lot on these '59 & '60 trailers.
I just happen to know where you can get a new handle for the L-77 lock assembly.
PM me and I'll fill you in.

Too cute! What's in the back... the bathroom? Does it have a shower/tub area? I'm jealous... it looks so neat! I love the shape of the (little rough) wheel openings too.
Great find!

I must agree that it is quite cute...of course I might be a little biased because she is our new baby! It has a lot of work that needs to be done but just to get it here and parked in the yard is such a relief. It does not have a shower, just a toilet spot without the toilet. The toilet area isn't large enough to change your mind but it will work.
I am going to investigate what it is going to take to put in some modifications...nothing major but improvements none the less. Should be entertaining at any rate.

Up early this morning with a smile on my face...
I woke up early this morning pretty happy with our newest member of the family and when I saw my husband out working on the Albatross he said "Did you get up early with some sadness about your Airstream buying spree?" Heck no!! I'm excited and now I might have a great source for a new handle (I have half a handle with the broken piece too) which is a big bonus.
I am going to try to stay away from doing much this fall other than trying to keep it sealed up as much as possible. The belly skin is really full of holes (a couple of them look like dinner plate sized holes where someone either tried to jack it up or rest it down on something..???) and a huge square cut out of the center. Too bad we couldn't lift it up and get that figured out but it must wait.
The great part is I have all winter now to formulate a plan of attack. I keep reminding myself we have to get the Albatross done first and then the Pacer. Meanwhile a new name...hmm...suggestions?

She is VERY cute! Congratulations! For the last few weeks I have been thinking of starting my search for a 50's under 20' trailer! I think they are so gosh darn cute and would be so much fun to camp in.
Have fun!

Aluminitus is a terrible disease......I'm so sorry for you.....but you've joined such a large, infected club of more than one AS owners that I'm sure you feel more than normal! Such a cute little trailer! Have fun & ignore all the naysayers! (like my DH tends to be!)

Hey! Congrats on the Pacer! You're joining a really good club of 59 Pacer owners... ;-)
I'll be sure to follow your progress. I'm excited for you. As for the handle, mine was broken as well an TG Twinkie makes some really nice ones.
That hole in the floor might be from one of the in floor heaters? I took mine out and was left with a 14"x20" hole or so.
