Issues issues
Got home today from picking up the grandbabies for a week's stay with us and DH had two issues. One is the fridge we bought for Easy won't fit where we wanted it to go because of the venting and the other is that he dropped the little clear glass cylinder on the Bargman license plate light we have been carefully handling since we took her apart. Rats on both factors. Looking now at new fridge ideas with the possibility of moving the fridge to where the oven used to be and locating the stove top where the fridge was. Not ideal.
We could put the fridge we already bought in over the wheel well on the curbside but we would lose the closet. That is the only closet in there and that would be hard to have no closet. Looking for ideas on the fridge and the lens source. The big trailer is back in the shop as we try to get the non working fridge working. Would really love to take the little ones out camping for a few days before they have to go home.

No camping but some work done
Going slow with work and other things that take priority....now the pressure is on to move along. Daughter #1 would like their trailer ready to use next year with the two grand babies. Uh....well since we have daughter #2's trailer in progress, that might be interesting.....we will give it all we can and see what happens.

Fresh water fill question...need help.
DH says we can't use the original fresh water fill spigot that was original to the 1959 because the fittings aren't the same. He says the diameter is different from what is available now to what they had then. He is proposing he put another fill fitting on the roadside front while I want to keep the original as it is on the curbside.
I have cleaned up the old fill hardware and it is in really good shape. I am sure someone has faced this problem before and not had to cut another hole in the trailer to fix it. I would love to hear about how to do that so I can keep him from doing that.

I had this problem, and it does fill more slowly, but you can get the right size hose from a big box store as opposed to the proper fill hose from a trailer supply store. Then it is just a matter of threading or welding the proper fill nozzle onto your tank. Mine works fine, but the biggest issue is that I need to put in a better vent on the tank to allow air to escape when filling the water. I thought I could get away with a vent that runs partially through the fill and then out, but it didn't work and now it is just a matter of accessing the dang thing.

I will let DH know tomorrow and thanks for the info. We are headed out to look at another AS tomorrow. No idea if it is the ONE or not. If we get that one, we should be done ...a trailer for every child (they are all grown up now) and so when we are gone, they can enjoy them with their friends and families. Wish us luck on both the water fill and the hunt.

Sandy, just finished your thread. Thanks for taking the time to document your work, I'll need all the ideas I can get!
Good luck on your newest as search, I guess I don't need to remind you to make sure you get a title.

One thing I will never do is to leave my money with anyone and drive a trailer away without a title. Fool me once. Now that is one of the first questions I ask the seller. Electrical is almost done on Easy and we are moving towards installation of the cabinets. It might be a decent camping weekend so off we may go instead of doing any work. Must play when we can cause the snow will appear and all that kind of fun is over for a long time unfortunately.
The good fortune of AS has rained on us with finding two more possible trailers. Looked at both on Saturday during a dumping rain and want both if we can get them for reasonable prices. Keeping my fingers crossed as I have some great ideas for both of them. If we got them both, we would be able to actually keep one once the kids take all of theirs. Still want to be camping in the end no matter how many AS it takes to get there.

Here is the bubble patch made to fit the back of Easy. It is better than the Good Sam sticker that hid the mystery hole before. The patches are fun to make...currently making an Albatross for the inside of the big trailer.

Slowly moving....
Painted a pearl metallic finish over the aqua color on Easy to soften it a bit. Not really excited on how difficult it was to work with this finish. Not certain I like the end result but am waiting until we have more inside to decide if I need to repaint or not. I am hoping not but will do so if necessary.

I like the patch, the edge has a nice finished look. Did you cut it with a brake?

I am hoping I get a box and pan brake for my birthday coming up...that was a bald faced hint DH!! Alas I just cut it with a hand tln snip. I bent the edges slightly with a metal working tool. Easy peasy.

Thanks for the compliment...it was just sitting down with a piece of blank aluminum and trying to come up with something simple. I had already made a patch in the shape of ND and very detailed but DH wasn't a fan and he put the kibosh on that. So I just did a simple bubble pattern and he was fine with that one. I liked the more detailed one but it was a no go for him. They are easy to make and fun to figure out what to do on them.

ND in Aluminum
Here was my original idea for a patch but DH said no. It has some pertinent info on it and very personalized. I really had fun making it and think I might use this one someplace else on another trailer. Who knows?

Hey Sandy, I see you have your priorities straight, you installed a new throne! What make and model did you go with?
I'm having trouble separating the lower portion of my old Mansfield toilet from the black tank, I removed the four screws but no go. Don't know if I am missing something or if it is just corroded to the toilet flange. Any tips?

Asked DH because all I do is pick out the new stuff and serve as slave labor. He said after he got the screws out on the toilet in the Albatross, the flange was really corroded onto the black tank. He also tells me he doesn't know a thing about the type of toilet you have He said the Albatross flange was a *&$^*$ to remove but it was righty tighty, lefty loosey and he finally got it loose.
He was going to replace the tanks in the Albatross so he didn't care too much how rough he had to get with getting it loose. Your plans may be different. Easy didn't have a toilet to take off (it was gone already) and the tank was long gone if there ever was one. We ended up with coprolites to scrape out underneath the floor boards once we got to that stage of the demolition. I think it was just a hole from the toilet down to the ground! The kids were calling her "Stinky" up until that point for good reason.
We put in a new Thetford toilet....don't remember the exact one but I like the porcelain bowls so it doesn't get scratched when I clean it. Can't wait until we can get this trailer out next spring and see how everything goes. Lots to do yet before we get to that point but daughter #2 is waiting for her trailer. She is going to let us use it until she takes it for good. How long that will be depends upon when she gets her house. Hope she gets her house...and waits on taking the trailer....

Some actual curtains on initial fitting plus more
Started initial fitting of the curtains. Sewing the plastic tabs wasn't as difficult as I had imagined. I haven't cut the final length yet until all of the interior is in then I can tell how long we will want them. Of course, I don't have enough material to do all the same curtains so I am making due. Positively love the polka dot material....wish I had more.
Put rice paper over lexan in the overhead cabinets and under the dinette. I was hoping it would be more opaque than it is but now we have to put our lead crystal up there so it looks nice. Trying to locate more knobs to match the ones we have already and the ones Peter gave us. We are making more drawers than were in there originally and we were short knobs to begin with when we got the trailer. I may have found some and will see if they are the same in a couple of days.
DH has been busy installing more of the interior and getting ready to run propane lines. He has the stove top in for placement and will be connecting it up shortly. We got some cool retro laminate that is going to go in soon too.
DH was working on the plumbing today for the sink and we got a really nice faucet ready to go in. My mother in law said "This is really a palace." which I took to mean it was pretty nice. It will be so much fun to have this one and the Albatross out camping next year. Almost two down and two to go.
Son in law is coming next week to start the demo on their trailer-the 1966 Safari. He may never be back after he sees what is involved in this operation. DH doesn't want to have too many piles of AS parts sitting around because it is hard to keep them all straight as far as what goes to what. He was out cleaning out the bone yard this evening since it was such a beautiful day here today.
I will have to start a new thread on their Safari once they get it started and have a name for her. They live in MN so they won't be around much but any help is welcome on these immense undertakings. It will be fun to have some help on the restoration projects instead of always just a two man crew...well, one man and one woman. And two funny dogs.
