See if THIS works

Hopefully this shows the galley curtains. Nothing is hemmed yet. Waiting on final modifications before I do that.

Very happy with the fabric

Thanks Kevin,
I picked out the fabric before we even had demoed the trailer so definitely got a head of the curve. Glad I had found the brown but sure would like to have more of it. I also have the upholstery fabric....hope that is enough as there are lots of cushions in that trailer.

I am enjoying making these curtains a lot more than the ones for the Albatross. Those double attached by elastic monsters are going to stay as is for a long, long time and someone else can remake them after I'm gone. Uffda.

Did a little work on the Pacer today

Spent some time in the Pacer today putting down shelf liner, cleaning up sawdust, watching DH install my "real from the Great Lakes" porthole window in the trailer. He's not a fan but I like it. Still have to attach the inside trim but it brings some extra light into the rest room.

She's so lonely, oh so lonely

Snapped a picture of Easy sitting in the snow waiting to go back into her spot to be finished. She'll be waiting a long while now but she has some company out there anyway.

Table up and cushions in progress

DH got the table installed today and I worked on cushions. First attempt was not great so I will do that one over again. The large bed cushion worked fairly well. I have to get good at doing these so when my daughter and I start on their cushions for the Safari, it will look more professional.

Here is a photo of the table. Looks better in person than the camera on my phone shows.

What you are seeing there is the state pie of North Dakota (well, state berry anyway!) which is the Juneberry. Nothing tastes quite like it and what a treat. It actually matures in July and we pick as much as we can and freeze what we don't make into pies and jelly. They are called Saskatoons in Canada where many of my relatives come from.

Our funny calico cat is called Juneberry so you know how we feel about the fruit at our house. Everyone needs to try the fruit fresh, in pies, as syrup, or any other way. A must try before you die kind of deal.

Table looks very nice, Sandy. I like that boomerang!
And, yes, there's definitely a learning curve with cushions! I'm still not happy with the "tightness" of one of mine. May have to wrestle it off of the cushion and redo....

Thanks Kay,
I did a simple wrap on the cushions in the Albatross and the fabric had enough give that they look saggy. I decided I was going to try the box cushion approach on the Pacer and they are better but I think I am going to need a lot more practice before I am ready to call my work professional. Good thing I have another 9 cushions to make on this trailer. I should be in great practice once I am done with all of them.

I would love to take credit for that pie but it isn't mine. It is a photo I found from a ND site. My pies are more like regular pies....I go for the taste more than the fancy crusts. I do love that picture though and the person that made it does have great skills.

If you haven't tried Juneberry pie, you haven't lived. Fresh ones out of the oven in mid July at our house if the birds don't take all the berries off the bushes before we get to them.

Sandy and Kay,

Did you wrap the cushions in Dacron? Looks like quilt batting? It tends to fill out the bagging and smooth out the cushions. It's crucial for a real profession looking fit. Looks like this but wrap all sides.

I have a bunch of that laying up in my sewing area and I was going to put it on before I put the silk over it for a final fit. I was thinking the cushions are going to be "stuffed" if I can get all of that in there. Might need another set of hands to pull, push, and zip by the end of it. Thanks for the reminder!

Or you can put it in a thin plastic bag, suck the air out of it with a vacuum cleaner, it will slide in easily . Kinda a pain to rip the plastic out but it does work!

Found something I think might work

To tell the truth I found another product called silk that you put on the cushion and it doesn't squeak or make a sound but keeps the cushion protected. It goes on after it is wrapped in the Dacron and helps slide into the cover. I don't have it yet so it will be at least next weekend before I get it and can try it out.

I am hopeful it is a slick product so it makes the next 468 cushions I have to do a whole lot easier. Time will tell.

I may have to try the Dacron. I have found that if I measure the cushion I'm covering, and add 1/2 the seam allowances I'm going to actually use it gives a tighter fit. Depending on the fabric, no seam allowances works sometimes for stretchier fabrics.

Kay, first one I made I followed the instructions to a t and the cover came out really big. I was then thinking of just putting it all in with no seam allowance but was afraid it would come out Barbie sized. Then I decided I would try the half inch seam allowance and that seemed to work well. The zipper sections are another measurement and process while the rest of the boxing is still another measurement as well.

Every one of these cushion covers takes me 3-4 hours as I am pinning everything to assess fit, sewing some section, assessing fit, easing in some areas, and also serging all of the finished edges so when they need laundering, they are all ready to be washed without fear of raveling. They end up being pretty heavy covers and hopefully they stand up to camping.

Big storm here today so instead of going to work I am headed out to the sewing room. Lucky day!! I am sure we will have to make up the day later but I sure wouldn't want to be out on the roads today. Stay warm.

I like the welting you put on yours. I thought about it but decided not to. Too much work and since we'll be sliding in and out of the dinette, I thought it might make it harder. For zipper sections, I just add an inch to my width measurement, divide the whole thing in half, and stitch/baste the 2 sections together with a half inch seam allowance. I've done these before for other trailers we've had. I always have to sit and think about it for awhile before it all comes back! Your cushions are much bigger than mine so 3 - 4 hours per cushion sounds about right.

Rain coming in soon. Hopefully that's all we get here! I'm tired of Marchuary.

Enjoy sewing!
