1959 Pacer ...worth a shot?

I believe this to be a 1959 model because of the nine in the number. The 322 should be the sequential number off the assembly line and the SS is the sleeping arrangement although I can't remember what it stands for, probably streetside. If this is a CA made unit, it should also have another set of numbers on the lower right of the ID tag indicatiing month and year off the assembly line. For example, my TradeWind has 858 making it an August 1958 born on date. Typically, anything after the sixth month is the next model year.

Looking forward to figuring this one out.

I've used a big eraser attached to my drill - if it's a decal. You can find them at a autopaint and body supply shop. They're actually called a decal stripper. Or, use a chemical stripper. The eraser works really well.

I tried to soften them up a little with WD 40, but they are very dry and hard as a rock...

Brad - acording to the info at 59Pacer
59 Pacer numbers are from SS9001 to SS9328. Pacers were only made in Ohio. The numbers fit, I would say it is a 59 Ohio Pacer.

IF the numbers are decals - then yes, it may work. I should say that you need a larger drill or angle grinder to put the eraser in (say a 1/2 drill).

I bought a panel van that had BAKED on decals - they wouldn't budge with 3m decal remover, wd40, OR heat. The eraser worked like a charm without harming the paint.

I guess I should change the name of the thread to "59 Pacer ...worth a shot". Anyway..Levon or Jbond did you replace black/ gray tanks? If so where did you get them and what sizes? thanks for all the help.

Eric, no tanks with this 60 Pacer. It does have a shower when hook to shore supply, and will use a porta potty. PO even did away with the fresh water holding tank (maybe it leaked/rusted out). I left it much like I found it, only took out the 6 gal. water heater and added a 2.5 one. Have not finished polishing it, but should be finished in time for Fla. State Rally.
