The grade 8 are for attaching the angle bracket to the rib. Most have only one ot allow some movement in an extreme situation. Though the floor are just zinced steel 1/4 20's. I figure if a hurricane wants it then it will have to take the whole thing in one bite.
More Aluminum for the belly pan came Friday, now have all I need. Not much progress today. Bought the plumbing parts for connecting the shower/tub to the shower pump with a gravity option. This hose size stuff will make you nuts.
Got the Caravel ready for next weekend "gathering" at the Cape Cod Canal. had to change the dump valve. Pretty easy if you have the right parts. Put grade 8 bolts and nuts on the tongue jack. Washed the trailer, make some new connections for the blue tank, and checked the air in the truck and trailer. Will charge the batteries all weeks and be ready to go.

49 days to go. Today I replaced the street rear section, attached the center belly pan, cut and formed the rear belly pan piece, and made channel for the rear end. Tomorrow attach rear belly pan section, do front belly pan section, Start wiring circuits that go between the skins and the tow hook up. Need to make some decisions about running lights, brake lights, backup lights, ect. Will wire for AC (Low Profile carrier).
It's going to be close....

This is the drain for the tub shower. The blue hose is to the pump which will pump the waste water into the waste water tank. The valve will allow for gravity drain to ground or blue boy as a hose connector will be added. The handle and the gravity drain opening will be below the belly pan.

i just found your thread. it's nice to see another '59 just ahead of me. thanks for your comments in my thread as well. i saw really early in yout thread that there was a descrepency wether the trailer was a '59 or a '60. funny. mine says 1959 on the body in decals, but the title says 1960. it has the original 50's style "Airstream" placcards below both windows.
Today I took out the lower curb side window by the door and the center street side window. Both will be replaced with aluminum to allow for a change in the floor plan. Dinette with high back all the way around and a seamless kitchen back splash area. Also gives me room for a small wardrobe at the foot of each bed.
Got on side of the rear belly pan on, almost. This is a real struggle with the bumper in the way. Bolted down the wheel wells. Then ran the AC circuit wiring. Got tired and needed an easy job. Wrestling with sheets of aluminum under the trailer is exhausting.

Need to order the water heater and space heater and electric toilet and water tanks and pumps.

Not much done today. Ran some more wire and did some more insulating. 47 days to go. I'm getting a little concerned about time. Ordered white coat (por stuff) for the caps and the tub.

Airstream, like Auto Manufactures has "year Models". The coach may well be a 60 model that built in late 59. I think October is the mark of the new model year.

Both end caps are back in after sanding off the old paint and recoating with expoxy. It was very difficult. Second Fantastic is in and extra supports for the AC are ready to go. All wiring that goes between the shells is in. The lower curbside front next ot door window is now covered with a new piece of aluminum. Tomorrow I hope to finish the patches and some belly pan trim. I'm running 2024t3 .032 along the edges midships. Oh, yea, learned how to take apart the air rivet gun and clear a jam. Water heater and furnance are on the way.

what kind of furnace did you get? does it require ducting? i am looking into heating solutions for our 18 footer. i really want an old, vintage lookng heater to mount on a wall, but i don't know of a good source. the ducted furnaces seem to be pretty pricey. the AC unit i'm looking at comes with a heat strip add-on option... good for camping with hookups, at least...
Without looking I thinks its an NT-30; 30KBTU. AC also has heater built in for mild chills with hookup. It has four 4" outlets, seems one must use at least three as they only give you one cover. It's likly too big for most of the year but I wanted the options of late fall or winter use. Not water below the floor level except the shower drain to the discharge pump hose. That's about 8 inches or a cup of antifreeze.
For a really cool wall unit check out the small marine cabin heaters. The original ones would scare me to use.
