Smile New to us: 1964 Overlander Double ... Lock!

Hi all!

We just acquired this beautiful (some day!) 1964 Overlander. These forums have been an inspiration to get into the Airstream renovation and living livestyle.

I have a question right off the bat ... As you can see in the 'door lock' picture ... there is none! So I am seeking your advise on what lock to get (vintage? new but vintage looking? completely modern (think number code with App) ???

If you have a similar Airstream, can you please post a reply with a picture of how it is supposed to look?

Also ... almost all outside compartments are locked and guess what ... no keys! ... what's the best way of getting them open? A regular locksmith? Any key/lock guru's here?

Thanks much in advance!

Jos (and Jake who is sound asleep).

Jos,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new-to-you trailer.

We have a '59, so our lock is different. Not sure what the newer ones had.

Baggage door locks are really easy, assuming you have the same ones we have. See this link. You should be able to remove the cam from inside the trailer and unscrew the large nut that holds it in. Note that the cheaper ones can be opened by lots of keys out there.

If you want a fancier version, with a unique key, see ch751.com. We picked up this version:

TCL118 | 1 1/8" Tubular Cam Lock
Cam Length: 1 1/2"
Cam Bend: None
DUST COVER (recommended): Chrome Dust
Cover
KEYING: Keyed Alike

Good luck,
John
