my new project - '60 Overlander

I now have a new (old) 1960 Overlander. It is in rough shape and I still have to get it home. Background on this is in this thread, http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/one-i-wish-i-had-26940.html

I will be updating this thread as thing go along. I plan on getting this home and doing a full restore on it. I will need the floor replaced and I plan on putting a gray water tank under the floor, I am thinking that the body will be coming off the frame.

Currently there is no title for it, it was lost. It was registered in Calf. but since it has not be tagged for many years they have purged it from there records. I am going to be able to get it titled in Wash. state with not to much hassle and get a 3 year conditional title.

I have some questions that maybe someone can answer…
1. What is the ball size for this trailer?
2. What is the front wire plug on this trailer? The wires come from the TV pigtail and split and some wires go under the trailer and some go into the plug that is on the curb side of the front. How does this plug come out?
3. Where can I get a battery that fits the box on the front?

Hi Garth,
Nice looking Overlander. Good luck with the rehab. I would bet that the ball hitch is the same as our 62 Bambi at 2". The battery MAY be the same as well. I have printed off info supplied on the forum for an Interstate battery which is 19.25" long, 4.25" wide and 9.5" high. If that works for you it is model 3ET-VHD. Well it has been awhile since I update this thread. I got this home late last summer. I have not worked on it much since. Busy with other thing. It will need a full restore. I will have to replace all the wood on the inside. It is all rotten.

What did you do with the plug and or pigtail on front panel ? It is 12 volt power supply as I have learned.I want to retrofit 12volt system to my TV.

Is this plug that you are talking about? This is how it is right now and I have not changed it yet. The wires come off the pigtail from the TV and split off. some go into this plug on the front of the trailer and some go under the trailer.

Here's a close up of mine. I know the plug end goes into this receptacle and turns but without the male end of the cord, I just don't know which way it turns. This female receptacle is stamped with the following:

HART LOCK
15A - 125V
10A - 250V
A-H&H with the UL insignia

On the interior, almost directly behind this receptacle, there were two light blue wires coming out of the interior skin about 5 inches above the floor. I had been monkeyed around with by I don't know how many PO's because the two wires were hooked together with an in-line fuse and old black electrical tape. One of the wires went to the two overhead, original 12 volt lights in the ceiling, one in the galley area and the other in the bathroom. I wasn't able to trace the origin of the other one. Hope this helps.

Upon closer inspection of your photo, it looks like your has a flip-up cover like the shore power hook-up connection. If that is the case, it is a Bargman 60-0-3 receptacle as pictured here. This connection point was usually located at the streetside rear for connection to shore power while at a campground. Have never seen one in the front but I guess all things are possible.

Brad this front female plug, do you have any idea what it is for? Working on a 59 traveler and it is there, no wires to it, no evidence it ever did. Does also have the Bargman shore power plug on the street side rear.

Yes, this plug that's on the curbside front curve is for a separate cord to the TV that only powered the 2 ceiling 12 volt lights. Mine is a "park" model which didn't have an on-board battery. I'll bet this '59 Traveler was without an on-board battery too.

Ahhh ok I get it. I'm guessing the same thing (noticing no dump valve either). There is a nice loop of wire inside the trailer in that approximate location. Would make a perfect location for a battery under the dinette seat. Thanks for the info!!

That's where I put mine, mostly because of the ease of access from the entry door and because of these very wires.

Do your wires have a light blue insulation?
