First I'd like to thank all of you who have been so helpful, either with active leads, or advice, or wisdom, or just general encouragement.
The Search has been a bit lengthy, but a lot of fun. I've learned so much about Airstreams, RVs in general, the wonderful people on this Forum, and a lot about myself as well.
So without further adieu, I'm pleased to announce that I am the proud new owner of a 1963 Overlander. But not just any Overlander, this is the one that belonged to Terry (Overlander63) in Florida, and then Catherine (katkat) in Georgia. This is the one they call "Goliath."
katkat's husband was gracious enough to meet me partway between Austin and Atlanta, in Mobile Alabama, which greatly reduced my drive-time. The trailer towed home like a dream, and I received many appreciative glances on the highway, a couple of out-the-window thumbs-ups, and two people even approached me at pitstops along the way to talk about the trailer. It was a great experience.
But the work has only just begun, and I'll be sure to post up pics when I get a chance. I've been away from my family for a couple of days and it's time to introduce them to their new camper!
Thanks again to all for your help and support. I know I've made the right decision, and it is due in most part to the guidance I've received from all of you fine folk.
Utee94,
That's GREAT. Plus an Airstream that is going to stay in the Forum "Family" too. Can't wait for the pictures of your new pride and joy. I'm glad your search came to a successful end. And like you said, now the real work can begin.

Congratulations Marcus! As I've said before it's been a great ride following your thread. I've learned a lot too. Looking forward to seeing photos of "Goliath" and hearing more about it. IMO this thread is a classic demonstration of HOW TO search and research for a trailer of ones dreams. BTW it seems you're no longer merely dreamin!

I think that trailer needs a new name to go with the new owner. Goliath is the name I saw yesterday on an oil barge being off loaded here on Curtis Creek. I mean no offense here, others have loved that name. It just might need a new start.
776 posts, a couple hundred thousand words, well . . the warm-up is over. Looking for the new thread, the "before" pictures and an air-conditioned workshop/photography studio! (With Dad checking the smoker outside).
YOU KNOW THE ROUTINE. now it is time for lots of pictures of your trailer and your big ear to ear grin. A trailer that has been loved and provided as much pleasure as this one is an honor to own. Continue the tradition and go camping soon. Lots of neat state parks near you for a quck weekend trip. Your patience has paid off for you in spades. How does the wife like it?
Congratualtions Marcus! Fantastic Airstream. I am so excited that now you can join the rest of us sweating in the summer heat to restore these babes instead of just sitting in front of your computer looooking for one!
No, I am really happy for you. I traveled several hundred miles just this weekend and I am always keeping my eye out for you an AS. I guess I can stop looking now but I probably won't.

The only thing wrong with that idea, is it is considered bad luck to change the name of a boat. Is it also bad luck to change the name of a trailer?

Naaaa not bad luck at all - if it is properly christened - both boat and trailer - Have ya ever bin to sea billy??????
Go ahead giver-a-new-name one that suits you and your adventure in meeting up with your new life in the AS....

I would say a name change is warranted if an overhaul is done, versus a lot of fix-up. A shell-off for example, easily falls into that category. A complete electrical, plumbing, LP and appliances, furniture, suspension and brakes also easily qualifies. Etcetera (if one feels the need to qualify the desire).
Former boater - and it is true I read it somewhere - if you salvage a boat or refit, restore or basically re-claim - you can safely re-name your vessel if it is properly christened in the true fashion of christening a vessel.
So Marcus - you and your wife once you have chosen your new name - be sure to pick a fine vintage champagne and splash her on the curves of her bow! and since she is a trailer - it would not hurt to spill a bit on those rubbers either!!!
