A question for someone.... how long is it advised to hold onto the old floor. It is in my studio in the way and the new floor is in. Can it go to the dump?
What about the old belly pan? How long should I keep that around? If I lived further away from people, I would just pile it up in the yard and let the snakes and bugs live under it. My wife is not too keen on that look for the yard, so maybe I will take it to the scrap metal yard and cash it in for a six pack.
Any thought on these two questions? Anyone need the rear two pieces of floor for a 1962? maybe ebay....
1 year is the standard rule... no seriously, Ebay it! Go get your six pack - that way Doug can add you to your protest!

Frank,
I'd say it's time for the big dumpster. Youcan recycle the aluminum, get some beer money.
I doubt that someone would need the floor. I kept my patterns from the last floor job, only to find out that the floors are "custom" to some extend, on all the trailers.they might be trimming them ( at least back then) to fit the shell just right.
Nice progress!
I was looking at your photos and blog, great work! I'm sure you're still recovering from your flurry of activity before the rally and bathroom competition, but I'd love to see some more interior shots of the finished product. From the ones you've posted, it looks great. I'd love to see how it all came together.
Thanks for the updates, for those of us who don't yet have our own units to work on, these resto/reno threads are the thing that keep us inspired and looking.
Marcus, Thank you for the kind words. The past five months have been a huge thrill. I do not know if you watched Monster House, but that has been my life. I promise you I will post some detailed pictures, very soon here in this thread. I have kind of torn back in so that I can finish the 12 volt improvements, this has left Anna less than photogenic. Did you listen to the throw-down episode Welcome to the Frontpage - The Vintage Airstream Podcast ? It is episode 68 from the Cherry Blossom Rally. Pictures will "soon come" as they say in Jamaica.
I was wondering if you could do me a favor? would you, please, go to The Green Mesquite Grill and have some of their brisket that is smoked for 18 hours... That is my favorite BBQ joint in Austin. Haven't been in a few years, but the meat was the best I ever had.

Since you have been so kind to share all of your photos and generous with your time by documenting your progress for all of the rest of us, I believe that I can accomodate you by going to Green Mesquite and eating an extra large portion of brisket solely for you. I, too, enjoy their food quite a bit.
In fact, I'll do you one better if you're ever in Austin, and I'll smoke some brisket for you myself-- my Dad owned a BBQ restaurant here for many years and, although I can't come close to touching his mastery of the art, I make some pretty dern good Q myself if I may say so.
I haven't yet listened to the Throwdown podcast but I certainly will. I've listened to several of them in the past, and I bet this one is a great listen.
Thanks for the response, your work really does look fantastic, and good luck on the continuing renovation.
Oh Abe, you exaggerate. I have to be honest with you, I never saw any redeeming qualities in the entire 1970's units (my opinion get over it all you out there) UNTIL, YES, UNTIL I went into yours. Abe, your trailer is a work of art. Those guys at Trailer Buff did you right on that one for sure. I have been converted or subverted, maybe even perverted by your baby.

Ahhh, a 60s-vintage snob?
Just kidding, of course. I prefer the early 60s models myself, but they don't grow on trees ya know. Right now I'm considering a '71, and seeing the work of vajeep and a few others here on the Forums, inspires me to believe that even a 70s trailer can look great if given the proper treatment.
Marcus,
I am a 58- 63 snob. Yes, I am and I am proud. Those are my favorite years by far and with good reason: EVOLUTION Wally was out there beating the hell out of the trailers towing them all over the world. As they broke they were improved as they were repaired, they evolved to a perfect caravanning unit. Fully self contained for comfort. Everyone has their era that they prefer... to each his own.
Now as for your search... you must not be looking too hard. I come to south Texas every year. My Father- in- law, Brother- in- law, and I come down to dove hunt in Lasalle county. We drive down from Austin or San Antonio and I see them all over the place. You need to go looking... I know in Cotulla, where we stay there are a few Airstream parked at some of the ranches we pass. Looked at a cool Avion, but it is too far to go retrieve it and I have enough on my plate right now. Go drivin' some farm roads....
hey Frank, a couple of your cherry blossom buds were here for lunch yesterday (rick & mary...plus rich, eleanor, & emma) and regaling me with tales of your hand-tool prowess and magic with a harbor freight brake...nice stuff, especially the metal-clad cabinetry! I did this before seeing yours and I'm glad I did, beats the heck outta formica:
