That actually made me laugh outloud! I need to buy new moons, the 3 that I have are badly rusted. I also dislike the pointed VTS/Madonna style. E-Bay to the rescue?

I cleaned the old rim, used a knotted cup brush/angle grinder them primed with POR15 self etching primer (no particular reason except I had a can), followed by some Red sandable primer and finally rattlecan leaf green. A new valvestem is installed and the whole thing is in the laundry room drying tonight.

I may go next week and buy the 10 sheets of aluminum needed to skin the interior.

I've been looking at these hubcaps. Smoothie Hubcaps 15 inch

Not sure if they will fit, I know the vintage ones won't fit either.

I like the green!

I'm looking forward to seeing how you reskin the interior...Mine's in pretty bad shape and COVERED with paint/adhesive/? Not to mention all the dings and gashes. Any idea what the budget is for the aluminum? I might spend more in stripper!

How about these in 10.125"?

Baby Moons - Baby Moon Hub Caps Solid Chrome Hubcaps

Sorta what I'm lookin for...

Aluminum skins, I already had 1 sheet left over from the belly so I figure I need 10 more...last time I purchased, they were $42/ sheet (4' x 10') for 3003 in .025 thickness.

I am sooooooo lookin forward to gettin the interior skins installed! I may actually use the trailer as-is during hunting season, our 34' would be tight to get into a pal's private camp.

The furnace area looks great! I am ready to do that task also. All have to do is put it in. The cover for the old area is already riveted in.

Mine was also 'already riveted in' but I didn't care much for it...

Here is an "as bought" photo...

That's what I used on my endcaps too. Had to have a bucket of water nearby to dunk my arms in when it got out of control....really eats you up fast! Glad it worked for you!

Dolly's big outing

Today, 1 week and a day short of 1 year since Dolly came home with us, she went for her first big ride as a work-in-progress.

Blue skys, 70 dgrees...I hitched the Dodge to her to swap tires and, oops, we made a loop around the Reservoir...

Dolly is looking good. You have really accomplished much in a year. Looking at Dolly is motivating me to get mine finished.

Not much done today...stood in line to vote for almost an hour...

I did get 2 more rims cleaned up and painted, hopefully to have tires mounted tomorrow.

Also slathered a coat of epoxy on the old 'fridge vent...it was gettin a bit 'thin' after 1/2 a century. Gray paint comes next.

small steps, in the proper direction!

Astrodome

I have a 63 also, but yours is much nicer. Mine was gutted when I bought it and its being completly rewired and plumbed. I have an "Astrodome" vent. Does yours and if so will you take a picture from the inside looking up. I want to know what it is suppose to look like. I have replaced all window and floors so far. Good luck but it looks like you know what your doing.

Mine shows traits of being shop built. I'm not sure if metal ones were ever original, I'm thinkin they were all clear. VYS sells reproduction ones out of Lexan if I remember correctly.

10, 4' x 10' sheets of .025 3003 at $46 a sheet...ouch

Now I get to start re-skinnin the interior...if we slow down the weekend outings

is that a mill finish like the newer AS's? Are you going bare aluminum inside?

It is a mill finish similar to the new 'streams...if you look at the photo close, you can see the finger prints from touching the surface 1 time...no way I can deal with that...I have considered a silver paint...

In all likelihood I will go with a painted interior...

Hey Vernon,

I don't know if you've seen this but check out this forum thread for an Astrodome that will withstand just about anything. And since it attaches with screws from the side should be leakproof.
