'61 project

I've just bought an Overlander (with tandem axles and the arched wheelwells) ready for an extreme rehab project and need to start hunting down those original(ish) parts that I would like to incorporate into the new design. The trailer was already gutted apart from the closet between the bath and kerbside wheel arch so really a clean slate.

I'll be going for full teardown and rebuild.

The part which seems most critical to my plan is a tub that fits in the original location. I'm assuming that there are no reproductions available as that would be choice #1, #2 choice would be a structuraly decent used part and that leads me to my question. Was the tub in a '61 very specific? or can I source one from another Airstream model and vintage? and how can I find out what will fit (even with a little 'trimming')?

Thanks in advance

Oh nearly forgot, it's still 1800 miles away so no pictures yet...

truckasaurus,

Welcome to the forums. Sorry, but I cannot answer your question about the tub. We have a '61 Overlander that we have enjoyed very much. Good luck with your project.

Soon i will have a page on my site that will be all former Airstream part(s) taken from the trailers that are being redesigned in the shop! They will be priced very low... I dont like the e-bay thing and I dont like the dumpster thing! If someone wants what i dont want or need and it can help restore another vintage trailer!

Lets bring the other 1/3 back on the road!

I do have a tub from a 62! It should fit if you are looking for Curb side (not street side)

What a great idea! I know I've been looking for a few parts.

Vintsream, that sounds like a great idea. Both the parts listing and solving my absent tub dillema. I'm interested in the tub, could you pm me some photos/ details/ price that sort of stuff please?

I don't mind altering my route plan to swing by Golden; I was in Boulder last fall and look forward to going back.

parts

Truckasaurus,

I have these available for free pick-up. They're from my '62 Tradwind, so the curves should be the same as yours. They are sitting in my yard and need to go. I'd like to get them to someone who could use them, like an individual, vintsream, or timeless travel trailers.
Shipping would be a pain cuz of their size.
I also have all the aluminum trim.

This is way more help than I had hoped for! 2333 What did you replace these pieces with?

I didn't, I'm doing a full-rebuild and have eliminated the bath and shower. Our priorities are sleeping and eating on weekend trips with 4 kids. So we usually won't need to shower and I plan on having one of those portable toilet things for "emergencies".
Some folks do great restorations, but I'm doing a rebuild and making it functional for us.
