59 Plastic Tub

So I am making slow progress. Some frame problems under a sound floor, now that should make everyone a little nervous.
The tub is plastic and the end cab inside rear is fiberglass.
The tub has an 1/8 drill hole in it, don't ask. Will fiberglass stick to the bottom of the tub if done right or is someother stuff better.
I will be patching holes in the cab and reinforcing some areas with fiberglass setup.
Looks like l'll need a welder also.

Yea - when I took my interior out I found the bad spots in the floor - my frame is good though - so I agree I've learned that even if the floor looks good, it may not be.......

I would think fiberglass would work if done correctly as long as its not a Poly proplene or simular plastic. If that is original then I would think it is not plastic. Plastic was not widely used back then. That was still the time of Bakalite. Bakalite would not have been used for something that size.

Our 59 the shower pan is fiberglass but it looks like plastic from the top.. I would think yours is fiberglass as well but it may just be gel coated on both sides and look like its plastic.

Reguardles as long as what ever it is is not a material that is prone to continual skinning like a Poly propelene is it should work fine. Just be sure to sand the area where you want the material to bond. Fiberglass does skin when it cures out and you have to sand past that layer and then it will bond quite well. www.westmarine.com is where I have been getting my glass stuff. That have a good network of stores and may be one close by. Little pricy but conveinent for small quanites.

In all of the '59 and '60 model years I've seen, the tubs were all made of fiberglas. Check underneath or the backside for the telltale fiber material, its there. These tubs were really strong and durable. I put a tub from a '63 Flying Cloud in mine because the original was really cracked. The tub from the FC was 2" shorter in length but I got it to work out.

Dome is Fiberglass. The tub looks like and feels like plastic, top, bottom, and edges. This appears to be a very late 1959 trailer as it has that 1960 badge on it. Alast I'll prep a stop on the underside and test it. Maybe a little sanding will show the fabric. Still haven't figured out how to get the P trap off. The drain has no cross pieces to hold on to. I may have to cut between the tub and the top of the piece of floor I cut out and deal with the drain stem in the P trap afterwards.

Anyone need a hot water controll or knob. It clicks when turned that's all I know.
