1953 Airsteam

My mom is thinking about selling her trailer. How is an Airstream measured? The box measures somewhere around 26 ft. The title don't tell what kind either. It is a 1953 ?

Measure it from the tip of the tongue to the bumper. There should be a serial number on a plate which can be deciphered to tell you the year, model, and where it was made. Looks like a 50 something to me.... Looks to be in decent shape on the outside. Where is it located & what is your price?

Looks like a possible plate with serial number is by the door within door handle right by the window corner. Post those numbers here or post a legible photo and someone here can decipher the serial number and model for you.

Looks nice, dual Axel, door in door, jalousie windows, maybe 28ish, like said late 50's early 60's

Sorry, not jalousie windows I misspoke. Forget what that style was called but nice multi panel windows anyway. Someone with more knowledge will reply.

Charlie38, look near the entrance door for the tag. There should be a number on it, then look up the serial number on the airstream site. It will give each you the year it was made. My 1954 has serial number 04161.

With the 13 panels on the ends, it looks pretty 1959.

I am just west of Tomball, Texas. If your mom decides to sell. I would be interested.

Sid

1953 airstream 29' Liner

I just found the trailer in an Airstream floor plans site. It is a 29' Liner manufactured # 5003. It has been restored inside. This seems to be a rare trailer from what I can see. Does anyone know how to get the appraisal value?

Charlie -
That S/N and 29' length would make it a 1954 Liner.
1954 Liner 29'/30' - Vintage Airstream
To my knowledge, that is a pretty rare bird and probably of substantial value. But nearly every trailer of this age will require major work to regain her original glory.
About this time in Airstream design, frames shifted from "pipe frames" to "ladder frames." As I understand it, pipe frames almost certainly require major replacement and significant expense. An intact ladder frame may avoid this expenditure and thus be more valuable, if it has been able to remain sound over the 60 years since manufacturing.
Do your homework on this one - this is not a ho-hum average trailer.

Mark, Thanks for the reply. My mom has a clear title and it says it is a 1953. The tag by the door says it was manufactures in California. I didn't know it was a Liner until I found it on the web. The trailer is intact and has been restored on the interior.

Charlie-
The serial# will be a more accurate reflection of the model year than what is written on the title. Having been remodeled is both a plus and a minus: an old trailer like this might be most valuable in its original condition. Other buyers would value the remodel if it is well done and not a re-muddle.
Good luck learning more about this trailer. I think it will be worth your time and effort.
